I get to pick up my 15 - 22 tomorrow and plan on bringing it to the range on Saturday morning. This is the first gun I have ever owned. I've been the the Navy for 20 years so I've had the chance to shoot different guns(9mm, M16, M14, M240 and M500) and I've had tons of safety classes. I plan on cleaning the gun before I shoot it and start off with 50 rounds of CCI Stinger 22 LR then Blazer LR. Is this going to be OK?

Why stop at 50???? 
Just give the rifle a basic clean and lube and then take ALL the ammo you can find to the range. Fifty rounds will easily vanish before your very eyes. Have fun and congrats on purchasing one of the funnest shooting rifles available.

Why Stingers? Accuracy-wise, they are not all that great. And I agree, 50 rounds???? That's almost not worth a trip to the range.

As you've probably read, some people have had issues with their 15-22's. my main problem was FTEs at first but now that I've broken the rifle in, haven't had any problems at all. Read about adjusting the ejector and cutting the spring to fix the "lock the bolt backing the last shot". I haven't had any issues shooting CCI AR Tactical, Stingers, Federal bulk. Gun is fun as hell. I usually go through at least 500 rounds every time I take it out.

Yup, it probably stems from the fact that when we went out to the range to qualify that we were never given that many rounds to shoot with. Something about not in the budget...

The first time I took mine to the range, I went through 400 rounds in about an hour. Definitely plan on shooting more than 50! Have fun!

100 rounds total? You're crazy brother.... you need more like 500! Just kiddin... shoot your heart content. Don't be surprised how dirty the bolt and barrel is when you clean it.
Oh and I read when cleaning the barrel, you go from the INSIDE to the front....(as if the cleaning rod/patch were a bullet traveling through the barrel). It supposedly doesn't scratch the coating and barrel? Don't know if it's true.... I read it on some AR blog. If anyone could elaborate who has more rifle knowledge that would be great!

I'm not going to get into the bore-snake pit here since I'm one of the types that pushes patches through from the chamber with a jag and haven't had much luck with snakes in small caliber guns. I'm also curious about that new Remington bore-squeegee thing for .22's.
About the OP's plans; yessir, do take a whole bunch of ammo to the range with you along with several magazines and a friend to help keep them loaded. The 15-22 is many monkey-barrels full of fun and shooting is way better than loading mags. I have five magazines for my rifle and have no trouble running through them pretty quickly. I had my grandson conned into doing the loading for me but then he also decided that shooting was way-more fun and I got stuck on loading detail! Enjoy your new gun, it will become a valued friend to you.

OP shoot the @#$#@ out of it! At first I thought, I really will not shoot this or have as much fun shooting this as its big brothers. Well with ammo prices and availability issues, this lil gun rules. I think I have more fun shooting it now than I do its bigger brothers. Like others have said bring lots of ammo and buy more mags.. Love shooting this gun.

Congrats on your purchase SHIP MATE. You will enjoy shooting this rifle. Ammo is affordable and you will spend more time at the range with this rifle than you would with a AR15.
