I'll have to dig up my old M&P AR boxes and do some looking. I do know,on the M&P handgun cases,there is a 4 didget number on the lower right bottom off by itself. Like 2012,2013,2014 for instance. That is the "born date" as we refer to it. The first number stands for the year made. It could be an 8 or 7 or lower too. The "2" would be 2012 an 8 or 7 would be 2008 or 2007. The other 3 numbers are the day of the year made. 012,013,014 would be January 12th,13th,14th. Febuary would be a higher number yet like 042,048 and so on up to 365 (a late December date). I haven't really looked at the AR boxes(on the end) to see or just haven't paid attention. I was more into the SKU number for what model/make AR.

The M&P Handguns also come with a fired test round in a small brown envelope with the test fired date wrote on them (that date and born date number are dead on or real close). I don't know if it's just a handgun thing for the test fired case ??? But I've never found a test fired case in any of the Modern Sporting Rifle shipping boxes.

I am in the process of getting myself a different brand 45acp carbine for my Christmas present and from what I have been able to find out, not all but the more popular guns and brands have their production allocated for as much as 3 months ahead. With the increased number of gun purchasers and people knowing what they want, some companies cant keep up. The Sport is one of them. The Hi Point Carbine is another. "Sucks"

Up date: The 4 didgit number is the same on the M&P Modern Sporting Rifles shipping boxes. No spent cartridge though.
