A&W is very, very good. But Henry Wienhards is better. If it's not sold nationwide it's worth moving to the Pacific NW for.

Not a float fan but I do like Goose Island root beer. Sprecher root beer isn't bad either.

Of course, both of those cost about as much as the real beer from both of those brewerys.

Not a fan of IBC and I have not had A&W or Dad's in so long I can't rememeber if I like them or not.

Even though I come from Minnesota, I am prepared to admit that almost all of the good stuff to drink (except Summit EPA) comes from Wisconsin. That includes Sprecher's Root Beer.

I grew up on Hires, and will drink it when I can get it, but if I am riding my motorbike around Sconny on a hot summer day (is there any better way to spend such a day?), if I stop for a cold one, nobody is going to offer me a Hires; Sprecher's is what you get, and I'm glad to take it. Unless they maybe have a Spotted Cow.

Schells Brewery in New Ulm MN brews 1919 rootbeer. Quite possibly the finest available, if you can find it.

The best Root Beer I've had is either Hank's in Pennsylvania or Saranac in New York. Both are traditional brewed root beers, not sodas.

I've also been to some smaller breweries that brew their own root beer for consumption on premises. Union Station Brewery in Rhode Island for example.

I've never been fond of IBC. Perhaps it loses something in the long trip from Texas to New York.

Whatever type you like, enjoy.

My mother used to make root beer. It was the best I ever tasted. Except once. She made it in a old 5 gallon chamber pot. Once I got deathly sick on some. I thought maybe she put too much yeast in it. Then I found out how she made it, or rather in what. Even though she attempted to assure me that she had scrubbed out that ancent pot many times, that done it for me!
