I'm in NJ, my FFL in Garfield NJ charges $15.00 for a telephone NICS and it takes a couple minutes. I was in the store on the 21st of Dec. and it was phone in NICS. There is nothing in a web search to indicate any change to fax only. Who the ho ho heck has a fax machine these days? It's a false rumor as far as I can see.
I must be living under a rock. Why do they charge for the NICS check? In Ohio they don't charge anything.

Isn't this the state you cant even touch a gun in a gun store without filling out some sort of paperwork?

I've been in stores in NJ where you can't touch a gun without a firearms ID with you.

Well before you start calling folks liars you should actually go out and check facts with a dealer. Using your, I bought it such and so time is BS logic for sure.
In any case a NICS check put in on Wed didn't come thru till last night. Gun dealer had stacks of backed up checks and was spending much of the day redialing trying to get the FAX only NICS checks thru to the State Police.

My 2 fav LGS charge $20 for a transfer. That's all they charge and no calling noboby with DL & CWP.

Unfortunately after old man Izzy passed away the kids see it as a money pit and customer service is an after thought. Used to be you wanted anything and the old man would get it for you. The kids don't want to be bothered unless your spending top dollar. Their prices are pretty high too compared to most of the other dealers in the area. Pathmark hasn't been there in quite a few years. You'd be surprised at how much the area has changed.

Here in NC we pay nothing. Concealed carry card is good for long guns and pistols. Many dealers will still sell to you with LEO identification, taking advantage of the BATFE reinstating the LEO exception.
I feel bad for you guys. I see a lot of people post "just move then". I understand you can't just pull up stakes and leave over background check issues. I'm sorry that your state has devolved into a paranoid disarmed mess.

I'm at day 6. I called the dealer and he said they are waiting on about 100 more nics to come through and had just received a response back from the state on 30 of them from the last week of Feb....... What does New Jersey have to gain by doing this? If indeed this is deliberate.

Yup, "zero" in New York, and "zero" approvals.
Colorado was running over a week behind,then all of a sudden about two weeks ago they got all caught up in very short order.I wonder what happened???

Same in MA no charge, the holdup is manually filling out the 4473.
Then I give the LGS my pin #, and it is over in less than a minute, off I go.
