News just said that the Dept. of Transportation has "outlawed" roadside billboards advertising gunshows for at least the next 90 days due to recent "events."

Boys we have our mamary gland in a ringer. This is not going to be pretty. The house of cards is crumbling.

...the signs haven't really been up that long nor did they always advertise gun shows. The gunshows around here usually have pretty good crowds even without all the advertisement. A lot of it gets around on forums like this, word of mouth, or billboards. Texas may be the last state to even have gunshows eventually.

Pretty well deals with the first amendment, as well as the second. Most Depts of Transportation don't have the authority to overturn the Constitution.

Been going to gunshows here for fifty years. Not worried about attendance. Principle is the issue.

Here in Asheville, NC there is a gun show the day after tomorrow. Yesterday a Councilman from Asheville city council got up on his hind legs and said he thought the law banning guns on city property should apply to the gun show. Another councilman said he agreed with this position. Trouble is the gun show is at the WNC Ag center which is owned by the state. This statement is on the Ag center website;

Whisky, Tango, Foxtrot! Did these idiots not realize the gun show was on state property and not on city property? Their statements were repeated in the paper and on the evening News. The city of Asheville is a bit like San Francisco, but the surrounding area is fairly conservative. Perhaps I ought to write to the editor of the newspaper and suggest that if the city council wants to tell us what can and cannot take place on state owned property they ought to run statewide.

I don't really have a "problem" with rules saying I cannot carry at the city offices, but the city ownes venues like the US Cellular center where we have had gun shows for years. NC Law forbids carrying at "events" ie where tickets are sold. There is no State law forbiding carrying at gunshows (of course). Still, we are not allowed to carry loaded guns and they disable the firearm with a zip tie. Sellers routinely cut those off if they have an obviously interested buyer. Still, I have known for 40 plus years that there are anti gunners who are more than happy to secretly load guns at gun shows hoping to create an ND.

Yes I assure you that the state owned signs will still give routing information to Texan and Astros games, the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo, the annual air show and such. I assure you that these draw a much heavier crowd than gun shows in Houston.

Face it these are not advertising bill boards. They are traffic management devices. TXDOT issues traffic advice on these things not advertisements. I know how to get to the gun show and if there is a toxic waste spill on the freeway at exit 269 I really want to know about that not what exit to take for the gun show.

I just do not think it is a sign of anything politically evil. I've been to many many Texas gun shows and never saw any traffic issues. I wondered why TXDOT was giving directions to gun shows on these signs years ago. There was a complaint, so TXDOT is rethinking.

When all 3 major networks local news, playing to a potential audience of more than 4 million viewers reports on a story that supports gungrabber mentality, I get that way. It is a shame that more of us don't (in my estimation it is a Bravo Foxtrot Dog kinda thing.)

How horrible. Makes you wonder what the next generation is going to think about firearms. They do not teach anything about firearms in school (which they should), the only way they learn about them growing up around them or violence on the news and they both make a huge impact.
