White House readying 19 executive actions on guns

............and a Congressman from Texas said today he's readying articles of impeachment if he tries to add one iota to existing laws. It's going to get nasty.

Maybe I don't understand EO's as well as I thought but isn't augmentation of EXISTING law allowable? Where it might get sticky is something along the lines of reclassifying firearms to fall under the 1968 act. That could clearly be seen as circumventing congress. But if there is existing law and all he is doing is "strengthening" it by tweaks can't he do that and not be subject to impeachment??

I'd say you just summed up the decision SCOTUS will face, if it comes to it. Clinton got away with adding to it, because the Repubs thought he was making a political mistake, which he was. Obama will get challenged day one. JMO.

After watching his press conference today he seemed resigned to taking the "AWB" and magazine capacity type changes to Congress. He was even appealing to them to "vote with their conscious" or similar words. I think with the public outcry he feels his hands are tied. I COULD BE TOTALLY WRONG but I got the impression he will try and tweak background check laws etc...putting more muscle and teeth into them.

IMO he has an agenda but will not destroy his party to achieve it.

Time will tell.

KEEP THE PRESSURE ON LEGISLATORS FOLKS!!

He may also be stalling until he can appoint another leftist to the SCOTUS. :( This guy is dangerous and knows exactly what he's doing. If he keeps things calm enough to keep the Dim majority in the Senate in 2014 and a SCOTUS appointment, we will have a real problem.

Biden: W.H. readies 19 executive actions on guns

The comments on this article are great.

I agree this week / month is not the end of what he will try. Agreed.

The people are not buying guns and ammo in record numbers because they plan on giving them up....I have never seen anything like this in my lifetime.....I hope our representatives listen to the people....no telling where this could go.....but we can not afford to lose our freedom and becoming a subject is unacceptable....have to just wait and see what is proposed and be prepared for what ever is coming down.

I can tell you the one thing Andrew Cuomo has succeeded doing this week that has never been done before in NY is finally unite gun owners to a common cause. There have been factions that were hunters who could care less about "assault weapons", plinkers and recreational shooters, collectors and the rest of us who have been trying to get the whole bunch into the game. Well Cuomo has finally made the whole bunch mad. It's probably too late to do anything with the laws coming to this state, and make no mistake we will have the strictest laws in the country, and we will have the angriest gun owners. We may never get back what is lost but we will make our voices heard and we will make our elected officials pay in the end when they are voted out. They have woken a sleeping giant and if there is anything left of our rights come the next election cycle we will make them pay.

Every gun owner in NY needs to make this their personal mission.

David, I think that Biden et al are going to get blind-sided by the uproar and pushback that they are getting ready to experience -- you would think that they would get the hint by the phenomenal increase in gun sales that folks are not going to give up guns or magazines -- people are mad and fed-up
and the Administration's push today to increase the debt ceiling demonstrates their arrogance -- every dog has it's day and the day is coming and the dog is the constellation of angry law-abiding gun owners.

I try to be a law abiding citisen myself, but I have no intention of giving up my revolvers, nor do I intend to change out any ammo that I am using. If someone wants to take them, they can have them bullets first. I respect law enforcement but I do not believe Texas law enforcement will be out enforcing some executive order of the president. I worry that this reckless man in the white house is likely to set off wide spread disrespect and civil disobedience. A house divided against itself will not stand and neither will a nation.

Please don't flame me I am just trying to understand better. Reading that article (read it earlier also).

I dont see a issue with what there proposing? Whats so bad about them enforcing existing law? That to me makes sound since.

Whats so bad about the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention doing reserch on guns? Chances are this will take years if not longer. There not going to do this over night. Also maybe this will help lead them to mental health issues that plague our country.

The sharing of existing gun databases among federal and state agencies seems kinda scare at first but is kinda pointless. NICS checks are purged every 48hrs I believe and gun registries only exist in a certain few states. I would also assume those states that they do exist in would have to agree to share them.

I don't see any issue with focusing on enforcing existing laws. That is more sound then any other idea out there. Whats wrong with them taking laws that are already out there on the books and enforcing them instead of letting people slide by?

Stronger background checks will since he cant modify the laws all he can do is have them check it against more data bases for criminal activity I would assume.

Whats so bad about these things? They don't impede anyone rights. They don't take anything away they don't outlaw any guns. I think its the best possible outcome.
