NY Has Tentative Deal on Gun Control: AP

Gun owners in New York are not putting up with this, there has been an intense campaign of calling, e-mailing, and whatever other means possible to contact our legislators and reject this madness.
If the 7 round magazine limit is agreed on and there is no "grandfathering" clause there are many thousands of us who will become instant felons. I hope they have budgeted a boatload of money for the court system because there are going to be quite a few law abiding citizens going to trial. They keep reassuring us they don't want to take away our guns. They just don't want us to load them.

Breaking news...
The sons of *****es in the State Senate just passed their BS legislation.
Hopefully the Assembly is a bit smarter.

Last person out of New York, don't forget to shut the lights off.

My letter to Governor Cuomo following the passage of NY's gun control bill

Just moments ago the NY State Senate turned its back on NY gun owners by voting 43-18 in favor of the strictest gun control in America. I can at least say my Senator and representative both voted no, but it was not enough to stem the tide and some Republicans were caught up in the moment and voted yes, making many gun owners in this state instant criminals. I penned this letter in only about a minute and I had to keep my seething rage from coming through. I cannot even express how angry I am at this moment, but this is the best I could come up with.

Dear Governor Cuomo,

For the first time in my life I have to say I am ashamed to be a New Yorker. Today my state government has decided that because of the choice of gun I want I am a criminal. I have served nearly the last nine years of my life in law enforcement protecting the public from criminals, and now because I may want a handgun or another firearm that has a magazine over ten rounds I will become the same thing I have sworn to protect the public from. In my career I have suffered an injury that may soon cost me my career, at the hands of a criminal, someone who cares nothing for the law. Yet that does not matter, I apparently am no better than they in the eyes of the state government. Despite the fact I have seen one felon and parolee after the next getting arrested with an illegal firearm plea bargain away their charges, but yet we are told this new bill will be tough on criminals. Sir this is utter nonsense and if anyone has told you otherwise they are mistaken or just delusional. What has been done is not to pass legislation that will be tough on crime, what has been done is that because of hysteria and screaming about how many rounds it takes to kill a deer a bill was rushed through behind closed doors, I'm sure promises were made and deals were struck for future considerations, all the while gun owners in this state were treated as if we all were at Newtown pulling the trigger.
I now must decide what is best for me and my family. I was raised in the Adirondacks originally growing up on the Canadian border. My family has lived in New York since the 1700's but for the first time I am considering leaving the beauty of these mountains for greener pastures where I will not be considered an enemy of the state simply because I choose to own a firearm. I doubt I will be alone. I know that my leaving will probably not trouble you greatly but as someone who has actually served the public in a way you can never truly understand as a law enforcement officer, I cannot serve here any longer when I am asked to protect the public but at the same time be condemned for how I protect myself and my loved ones. I can only hope that come the next election cycle this terrible wrong is righted and the people and gun owners of this state finally stand together and speak loudly at the ballot boxes when this travesty is wiped from the books forever.

Hah! A , i'll use the term lightly, senator said " this bill isn't going to reduce crime at all, the problem is the heart".......and then he votes for it. SOmeone ready the lifeboats.

David, I feel for you folks in NY. They rushed a bad bill and it seems like at least 1/2 of the language is unconstitutional garbage.

Just a heads up for New Yorkers.

Not trying to be political, but just a head start for our New York members who are being victimized here.

"Assault weapons — defined as any rifle with a "military style" feature, such as a bayonet or a telescoping stock — that are currently owned would be grandfathered and would have to be registered with the state. Magazines with a capacity of more than 10 rounds and manufactured before 1994, which are currently legal, would have to be turned over to authorities or sold out of state within one year. If a magazine has a capacity between eight and 10, it would have to be retrofitted to only hold seven rounds."

And yes that is "A" as is in one, from what I can find this includes flash suppressors. muzzle brakes and pistol grips.

S2230-2013 - NY Senate Open Legislation - Licensure, suspension and revocation of firearms licenses - New York State Senate

It passed 43-18.

I fear that other states will try to build upon this, and who knows how long it will take SCOTUS to over turn it.

"It is comprehensive. It is sound," Cuomo told reporters. "It addresses the multifaceted problem that we're dealing with. It protects, I believe, hunters and sportsmen, et cetera, and legitimate gun owners."

Primal scream.

If they consider cylinders and speed loaders to be magazines, and they might, that lets out a few revolvers, mostly .22 LR, but also the S&W M627 8 shot.

Best,
Rick

Hmm yeah I wonder what they have planned for that. So what about anyone who owns say.. a model 327 or 627? Do they need to stick a plug in the cylinder?

The idiots actually said in the wording that post 1994 ban magazines with a 10 round capacity will be ok, but you are only allowed to put 7 rounds in it.

Another primal scream.

Well get this, you are allowed to grandfather your 10 round magazines but you can only load them with 7 rounds of ammunition. Seriously, that is what the bill says. David, you're wasting your time writing to him because these politicians do not care at all. Your best bet is to move. We have been writing them and calling them and it did no good at all. Where was the NRA in all of this? Barely heard anything mentioned.

Weld that sucker solid. And one position in the speed loader or moon clip.
Maybe they will have a cylinder turn in program. Give them an 8 holer, and get back a 7.
Or, they can be sold out of State. As long as the other States don't follow suit.
Or, the Attorney General can send them to Mexico. They would need a new code name for that operation!

Best,
Rick

The only military-style rifle that I can think offhand that won't be an "assault weapon" under the definitions would be the M1 Garland. The M1 carbine would be as would just about any other military-type rifle. Gees!

Rick, your Mexico idea might work.
We already had an abomination called "Solyndra".
Maybe we can call this "Cylindera". :D
