NY Has Tentative Deal on Gun Control: AP

Wow, from 10 rounds down to 7, and two "features" down to one... Good grief. I'm sure this will stop all the gang violence, though (*facepalm*). In fact, I'm sure Chicago will try and run with this next.

EDIT: Also, that was a greatly worded letter Mr. LaPell. I am sad to say that I fear it will fall entirely on deaf ears. But godspeed, nevertheless.

sorry

I am truly sorry that the gun owners of New York feel they have to leave their state to keep from being a criminal. The gun haters pass their laws under the guise of saving innocent lives, but at the same time, they refuse to save the unborn.
I wonder,..... if all the tax paying gun owners left the state of New York, would they have enough money left to run the state for more than a couple of weeks?

To me it is politics as usual

Obviously New York politicians feel safer on the job or on the golf course with friends, and see everyone else as possible criminals about to rob them.

The typical big city has one side that has gangs and another side that does not. The sides with the gangs tend to grow as the people in the victim fringes move out of town to commute back for daytime work.

Actually there is more at work than that. As the population of the city grows - and the city boundaries do not move - eventually the entire city has more crime.

In 1970's California they called it "White Flight" and began bussing kids from the outer areas back into the crime ridden inner city schools. Most of us found private schools or did home schooling.
Politicians always sell-out to whoever makes the most noise. Maybe after their friends have bought the bus company perhaps?

If you consider the political leaders of New York as being Paranoid (excessively suspicious) and greedy, you might be right. And with a history of some having been gang bosses they should be paranoid.

After the automobile company bailouts and partial government ownership, I would believe anything. I would not be surprised to see firearm companies partly owned by the government soon. After the stock value gets driven down maybe?

""Assault weapons — defined as any rifle with a "military style" feature, such as a bayonet or a telescoping stock — that are currently owned would be grandfathered and would have to be registered with the state. Magazines with a capacity of more than 10 rounds and manufactured before 1994, which are currently legal, would have to be turned over to authorities or sold out of state within one year. If a magazine has a capacity between eight and 10, it would have to be retrofitted to only hold seven rounds." "

"Any rifle" - does this mean old Mausers with bayonet lugs? And single shot rifles with pistol grips? I know NY State laws are in general stupid and poorly written, but this is absurd on the face of it. ANY pretense of preserving citizens' rights are clearly out the window. I feel bad for the good people of New York.

So 8 rounds internal in an M1... 8 rounds (depending on your mag) for a 1911... Now only allowed 7. What a ridiculously arbitrary number. I feel sorry for you NY folks. :(

7 rounds? Why not just limit mags to 6 rounds...then everyone will just buy revolvers....

Until "they" realize that many revolvers only hold 5 rounds, then it'll be "Why do you need a 6-shooter when there are plenty of 5-shooters..."

Why not just go for broke and mimic the Fed waterfowl regulation and limit to 3 rounds?

All ammo sales must go thru a dealer also.
Going to set up some sort of NYS hot line # for the dealer like the NICS # to call to do a background check on the buyer.
That must be what they're going to do with all the Troopers that were out of a day job at the 5 CoBIS (ballistic fingerprinting) offices around the state after they just closed them up a month or so ago.
They finally figured out that the program didn't do a thing to solve crime after 10 years in existance.

An A/W will be:
> Semi auto (Rifle or Shotgun)
> Have a Detachable Magazine
> Plus have 'one' of the evil features they decided makes it Military Styled.

..and your NYS Pistol Permits are no longer good 'for life'. Renewable every 5 years.
Some Countys already do that down State,,but most of the State issued permits are 'good until revoked' (or unless this gets done).

ALL gun sales must go thru an FFL.
Currently they require NICS checks for all purchases at gunshows.
The new legislation requires all private purchases to go thru an FFL & NICS check.
The only exemption I see is for transfers to immediate family.
A lot of familys are going to get a lot bigger I think.

I found this interesting in the new yet to be passed legislation:
"Exceptions are made for large capacity
magazines that are curios or relics."

What exactly does that mean...
I can keep my TSMG 50rd drum??,,Oh that's right NYS doesn't allow citizens to possess FullAuto,,but maybe the drum mag would make a neat ash tray anyway.

..So you can't possess any magazine that holds more than 7 rds,,even the currently legal Pre 94 AWB magazines that can hold 15,,20 30, 50...
Give it up, sell it out of state, smash it, throw it in Lake Ontario,,

NYS AWB is still in effect and that limits you to 10rds since 94.
Even though the new law says 7rd mags only,,you can keep the 10rd AWB era mags,,just don't load them with more than 7 rds. All of a sudden they trust you..

Anything you buy from now on has to be 7rd capacity only.

I got it,,
I guess I can only put 7rds in the Marlin bolt action 22 Model 80 mag I bought that holds 8.
I goes in a rifle made in 1935 after all. But the magazine is a replacement and was made probably in 2000 something.
I better call them if this passes. I may have to turn it in. It even looks evil now.

At least my local guys voted NO..
I feel a lot safer already.

Amazing, just amazing, that these politicians would have so little regard for their constituents. Even ignoring the Second Amendment, have they no regard for the Fifth Amendment's protection of citizens' property rights???

To tell people who have complied with the law that they must now either divest themselves of, or modify beyond practical use, something they bought and have owned legally...it's just so wrong I scarcely know what to say. :(

Wow...

Wonder how many are actually going to comply? They're kinda creating a whole class of criminals.

Have NY politicians no respect at all for the constitution?

The constitution has nothing to do with governing. It is nothing more than a quaint historical document that has not been read or seen in many years in New York.

I imagine about 80 - 90 percent of those gun owners in New York that had their names published in the Journal News voted for the very same people that are poised to strip them of their rights to own a gun. I guess that interactive map will have less red dots on it now. What can be said about that?

Howdy

Not to hijack the thread but, when and who makes a stand against tyrany?
Who declares Coumo, Bloomberg, and others deficient in their responsibility to protect and abide by the constitution or their negligence of the rights of their constituents?
Shouldn't someone step up and charge these people with treason or some crime against citizens rights?
Other than writing letters and NRA support/membership what else can be done?
Can these traitors be targeted for some kind of personally expensive legal
(And deserved) battle?
The lowest bum in our prisons gets attention and a trial, dragging our communities into court nation wide, at the slightest hint of any kind of a rights violation.
Isn't it about time to start fighting back and standing up for our rights?
I'm not criticizing any of you. All I have done is donate to the NRA and write letters. I don't know what else to do, but if anyone has any ideas now is the time to bring them forward.
I'd be happy to contribute as I think many others would too if there were some kind of legal avenue to address this madness.
Executive orders, proposed bans and regulations. It's all starting to make me mad and I don't own one so called "assault rifle". I want to fight back and don't know what to do.
Thoughts?
Many thanks
Mike

What can be said about that?

I dunno...

It was pointed out in another Forum that NY's law is even more insidious than just a magazine ban. Now everyone who own that so called black gun will have to register the rifle making it even easier to confiscate in the future, which we all know is the ultimate goal.

Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but I get the impression that high cap mags for a pistol will be included, that the current Glock 19, for example, which comes in either a 10 round or 15 round mag will be illegal, requiring the manufacture of a new NY specific magazine?
