Its just a matter of when you buy one...

Delightful review. And that picture is just wild! I would very much consider having the same or a similar little message engraved/stamped/lasered onto the muzzle of one of my handguns. Who did the work for you?

I've not had much attraction to these platforms since introduction... but must admit, your post got my attention as well! I think I might just have to check one of these out. I sure love .45 Colt (and reload for it), and with .410 000Buck capability added in, the Gov sure is dang cool. Thanks for the post!

It's just digital trickery.

Great thread, except for the naysayers. I've had my Gov for almost a year, and even installed Bullseye's plug. I too have found the accuracy to be as good as my skills, and it now is my HD handgun.

I would not shoot +P 45lc in it. It doesnt need it and a standard 45LC is plenty for personal protection and deer hunting/trail use.

I have a friend who owns a Governor, and he asked me if he can shoot a +P 45 long colt. Or a hot reload? I told him that I would ask you people on this great site. Can the cylinder handle the pressure? I read somewhere that you can load a 45 long colt hotter than a 44 mag. Is this true?

No you don't. You don't want to waste your $ on a toy that will get you laughed at by experienced shooters. What you really want to do is buy a real firearm instead.

I bought one. But by your standards am lacking experience since I bought my first 44 mag in 1975 and have killed critters as big as Alaskan moose with revolvers. I think you are showing your ignorance by claiming something is a waste for others just because you don't see a need or want for it. Afterall, it is not your money is it? Ever hear of freedom of choice?

Not knocking freedom of choice at all. Just hate to see the ignorant waste their money. I think the mature and experienced have an obligation to help out the noobs that way. Have a nice day!

LOL ....Wow, how very unnessisary to make such assumtions . And what makes you believe you have more experience than myself or others? You have no idea who you are addressing or their experience level. It's obvious by your past post that you go out of your way to talk smack about the Governor. Please dont feel obligated to give unsolicited advise or make assumptions about others experience levels.

O.K Back to the Awesome Smith and Wesson Governor.
Here are some carry options I am using. DeSantis is the leader in leather holsters for the Governor and makes the S&W brand holsters you buy on the S&W site. I love a good leather shoulder holster and DeSantis makes a good one. It is called the NY Undercover specifically for the S&W Gov.

High quality leather and superb fit and finish. The Governor is not a heavy gun but I carried it for 8 hours in the woods and never felt the gun.

I was on my ATV today and totally forgot I was wearing my Gov. It has a ammo holding system that will hold 6 rounds either 45lc/45acp or shot shells or a mix of the two. I can easily conceal the Gov under a light sweat jacket without any printing.

Next is the DeSantis Scabbard hip holster.
This is a neat design because it is molded around the entire gun protecting it in the brush. It retains the gun very well without any straps in a fishmouth opening. It carries high enough for concealed carry and is molded to every curve of the gun.

There are some nylon options but they are more designed for a medium size revolver. I had a few that worked but nothing beats a specifically designed high quality leather rig.

I'll be glad to help you then since I am experienced and mature. Stay out of a conversation where you have nothing positive to add and avoid saying anything negative since you obviously do not own a Governor and have no experience with them.

Thanks for posting the information about holsters. I will need one soon.

We just got home from vacation and I finally got a chance to pick up my Governor. All I can say is "WOW". It has the smoothest single and double action trigger pull of any revolver I've ever owned, period.
Not sure of the # pull for DA but there is not a hint of creep on single action and the trigger pull can't be more than about 2 1/4 pounds. Will take it to the range soon.

Congrats.. I told you it was outstanding.:D. Try the Winchester 225jhp Silver Tips. They are tack drivers though my gun. I did pick up a box of Winchester PDX1 225jhp to test as well. They look very similar to the Silver Tips so I would bet they will be very accurate as well. I will report back. Have fun with your new hand cannon.

The naysayers are awesome. Which, by the way, are also the "experienced shooters". Wow.

Can I see your credentials?

Look, the gov is a great shooting gun. I have it sighted at 30 ft. Great grouping. I am shooting LC but plan to try the acp.
This is a more than adequate hd weapon.

Great review. I love mine.

What I meant on frame size was in regards to trigger reach and hand size. I find the N frame too large but the K/L fits me perfect. The X frame uses K/L grips; what does the Z use?

CP, the Governor uses the K/L Frame stocks / grips.
