State Representatives Rory Ellinger (D-86) and Jill Schupp (D-88) introduced House Bill 545
HB 545 would ban the possession, sale, transfer or manufacture of certain semi-automatic rifles and magazines that are capable of holding more than ten rounds.

HB 545 contains no grandfather clauses. Therefore, under HB 545, if you are currently in possession of the semi-automatic rifles and magazines outlined in this bill, you will have 90 days from the effective date of this legislation to surrender, destroy or remove these currently lawful items from Missouri. If you fail to do so, you could be charged with a Class C felony if this legislation is passed and enacted into law.

"Missouri Proposes Gun Ban"

I read these proposals with horror wondering why anyone in his/her right would even consider such a thing. Then I read the "Smug" replies that its such and such a state and will never go anywhere. This is troubling to me because it appears that we have grown very over confident and think there is no fight ahead. These replies may be exactly correct and I do hope they are but I feel that more opposition and less over-confidence will better serve our cause and this cause should be united and not divided. We already seem to be out numbered as far as our voting goes. I am convinced that there are some who own guns that may be on the fence so lets please stay on our lawmakers to stop all these reactionary law proposals.

It's worth contacting these reps to get the ban passed.

If you sit on your *** and think that it'll never happen then you're dead wrong. The anti's are working hard to get their agenda through, you should be working harder then they are.

Let's all reconvene in a month and see where it's gone. As far as being smug, I guess I am. It stands NO chance of passing here.

smitholdtimer: if I could give you 2 "likes", I would. Your words are spot on.

"Smug"?
I've lived in this state for 28 years, I think I have a pretty good handle on its political climate. You won't catch me making uninformed statements about North Carolina, since I know nothing about it.
As I stated, this bill will never pass.

CrazyFingers is probably spot-on about this bill going nowhere in Missouri. Both houses of the Missouri Legislature are Republican over Dems by a 2:1 margin. Sure, that may change someday but... no chance of it happening to save this proposal!

I would also like to point out that there is a difference between being "smug" and politically informed. Sure, we should, in every case, make our thoughts and feelings known to our representatives but... we should also choose our battles wisely as not to waste our collective political clout.

Just my 2-cents worth.

I've lived here all of my 61 years. Don't think it has a snowball's chance of passing, but that doesn't mean we should just sit back and watch. Fight them every step of the way! As long as there are "D's" they will keep trying to whittle away at 2A.

No that would be by me no way, send him to Mexico

I shoulda made the sarcasm smiley. The last time I drove through East Saint Louis on the other side of the Old Man there was a stripped police car up on blocks on one of the main streets. It was worth your life to stop at a light back in those days. The Illinois gun control laws didn't exactly enter into my defensive calculations as we drove through there. Let's just say the Smith & Wesson N-Frames were to hand.
