Great pic's great post's great everything { i had no interest to even buy one} now i will get one by this weekend for sure.just because of this post and story, great stuff. Thanks RON K.

Its a sickness.... I spent $3k in hanguns in the last 2 months. My Governor is a corner stone in my handgun collection. It does everything and is great for the "own only one gun" person. I think it is THE best trail gun money can buy simply because it can handle two and four legged threats as well as put meat on the table.

recoil?

Maybe I missed it, (this is a long thread), but can anyone comment on how much of a handful this is recoil-wise? For comparison, I find a 625 to be very manageable, don't like any .357 I have ever fired, don't care for alloy frames, whether J, K or L frame, not much experience with N frames.

Am wondering if this would be fun for a steel challenge or falling plates match? Probably no speedloaders available, other than moon clipped 45 acp.

So how is the recoil with 45LC or 410?

Well, while I was waiting for my Governor order to come in, or to find one, I saw a new Taurus Public Defender for sale at a local trading post. Thought it over and went with the bird in the hand and bought it. Like the OP I can trade it in later when I find a Governor.

If it helps with the recoil question any have fired a lot of both .45 long colt and .410 from the public defender with no recoil problems at all. Seems almost gentle...no where near the recoil I expected from either round. Just like regular rounds in other guns. Course Taurus has the "Ribber" grip...it works well. I'm guessing the Governor, being a similar gun, would have a similar recoil...nothing to fret about...

My Governor came with black soft grips that cover the backstrap.

I guess I don't see the point of this gun, given the lack of penetration from the .410, what does it do that a regular .45 Colt, or .45ACP won't do? I can get shotshell cartridges for either that will do in any snake I meet.

Thanks,

Michael

I like wise got rid of my Taurus Public Defender for my Governor and I love it. You really have to try the 45 acp in it if you haven't. I load my own rounds for it, very accurate out to 25 yards. I carry mine when I am out in the woods in South East Ohio. Copper head country.

Anyhow, as I take any chance I can to show mine off, here's a quick pic of my Gov.

Wow! That is one beauty of a gun!

I must confess that while intrigued by the Governor, I have never seriously considered them. After discovering this thread, I also must confess that the Governor may just become my next gun purchase!

Not knocking freedom of choice at all. Just hate to see the ignorant waste their money. I think the mature and experienced have an obligation to help out the noobs that way. Have a nice day!

I've owned almost every revolver model S&W has made since they came out with model numbers and many pre-models. I have only found a few I was a little disappointed with but the Governor is definitely not one of them. It is worth every penny, but the quote above shows true ignorance, lack of maturity and experience Mr.noob(dla)

Gov sells for 600 or so I think? I traded a Judge in and paid like 200 for mine.

Someone was asking about recoil...In order of recoil I've found, from least to most its

.45 ACP
.45 LC
.410

That being said it can depend a lot on the 410 load that you are using. There are a lot of them nowadays. It's a big gun although light because of the scandium but still absorbs a good amount of the recoil.

Recoil is a smooth push and not a violent smack or sting like a magnum round. I can dump all 6 00buck into the target in 5 seconds.

So how is the recoil with 45LC or 410?

Try a nice leather shoulder holster and its about as perfect as a woods gun can ever get.

Can any Long Colt revolver fire .45 acp ammo? If not, how does the Governor do it?

Awesome review! I purchased one, and am eagerly awaiting it to arrive at my FFL. I was looking into holsters and you have swayed me to the Desantis.

The Governor uses Moon clips, the same as a model 625 does. They provide you with a couple of full six round clips, and three two round clips.

I am not aware of 45 Colt revolvers set up for moon clips, but someone else may know more....

I would strongly suggest trying .410 that was specifically designed for shot revolvers. In particular, the PDX-1, there are plenty of videos on Youtube that show their effectiveness you can do the searching yourself. These naysayers pop up in every Governor post made and other than Ogy who simply has not had good personal experience with the weapon, I believe most are just people who don't like Taurus and are imprinting those emotions onto the Governor.

I've had excellent experience with mine and I too have had exceptional accuracy with the 45LC. The PDX-1 that I have shot has always given me good groups of the 3 disks and for someone who lives in a small apartment, I believe it's a great choice for home protection. As I've explained previously, I have a 590 but in a small apartment, a full size 12 gauge can be a bit unwieldy.

Anyhow, as I take any chance I can to show mine off, here's a quick pic of my Gov.

Love those grips!! What are they and where did they come from? How much?

I do not yet have a Governor, but will be getting one hopefully mid April.
