To Re-Load or Not???

Good Call......

last trip was trying my Technique... did well except the wind Hosed it all up:mad:

So ill try more on Monday.....

Remember, repetitive motion when "locking" yourself in for the shot. It's a learned skill that will become natural to you in time. ...Cheek weld to the stock, grip in hand, finger, first pad on the trigger. All shooting technique...

My other hobby besides shooting is photography. Over the past twenty years I've spent way more time behind a camera than a firearm. But both hobbies require the same discipline of breathing and muscle control so one compliments the other.

The biggest difference between the two is that I can get comfortable behind a camera with very little effort. But it's taking me time to get consistent at shouldering my rifles. I just added a 3/4" stock extension to my Mossberg MVP rifle to help me get a more natural cheek weld. I'll try it out for the first time next week.

What also helps me be consistent is Bow shooting/hunting. Been doing that since I was a pup too.

My Canon EOS Rebel makes up for what I lack in photo taking. :D LOVE the new digital one. Beats my old 35mm. ...NO film to process :D

You haven't maxed out. :D Might need a thread on this... It "looks" like breathing from that group. Time to get into technique. Check your breathing. Take a couple breaths, let out slowly, hold on the bottom breath and slowly squeeze the trigger. See what that might help your groups.

Technique...yeah....I bought a fairly nice pellet rifle and set it up in the back yard at about 35 feet. Got a boatload of stickon 2" targets and started practicing. Boy has it helped. I have put several thousand pellets across my back yard and my range technique has improved immensely.

Thats what my M&P 15-22 is for...I do my drills mostly with It, and now will spend MORE time Practicing my Longer range shots

I have a Cabela's 6-18 Scope & 2-7 P4 sniper I think i may Try on it as well...

Do some more technique practicing instead of just MAG dumps with the slide fire..LOL

Is anyone having problems with brass only lasting 3-4 reloadings due to the primer pocket being to loose. Somewhere else(.300) a guy was complaining about reaming out the crimp on LC brass and only getting 3-4 reloads before the pockets are to large to keep the primers from falling out. I haven't had that problem but figured I would ask if anyone else has heard of this problem. Even tho its for the .300 its the same brass.

GMCman...the person is taking out too much material when removing the crimp. I have seen this same problem and that was what had happened. You can only take out a bare minimum..:D

Technique...if we started another thread on technique it would go on forever. Unlike you all my hobbies involve fixing things, playing music or shooting. Since I retired from working on German Cars and playing music around Aspen I have started back to shooting seriously. When I lived up there I shot a lot of 22lr with my old Marlin 60. It is like riding a bike but does require practice.
You can have the best technique in the world, you can have your breathing and heart rate perfectly in sync but if your rifle doesnt fit you or is not adjusted correctly to fit, you will never make that next level. In order to have the perfect cheek weld, repeatable eye position, to where there is no difference in where your head and eye are positioned shot after shot. The stock has to be the right length and the riser has to be the right height or the scope has to be on the right size of mounts or you wont have the repeatability. I agree breathing, sight picture and a smooth steady pull on the trigger are very important. Also include having the tool adjusted correctly for the user.

I do that with my pump up BB/Pellet gun and my C02 M&P pistols too. The nice thing is,I am aslo recycling :D Dump the BB's back out of my target box and away I go. :D.

Stavman: I planned on getting a 22LR (I really want a magnum research 22AT with the graphite barrel) but I opted instead to get set up on reloading. If I buy another rifle it automagically gets hit with a $300 premium over the cost because, for better or worse, my gun safe is FULL. :)

Plus the neighbors haven't said anything about my gammo making noise and I can kick back with a libation and a cigar and just have some fun shooting into the pellet trap.

On a different note my libation and cigar USED to be a fine scotch and a monte cristo.....after paying for my reloading equipment it is Tecate beer and the very best $2 Philippine cigar I have! Oh the sacrifices......

Thats what I was thinking but wasnt sure and thought I would ask, since I started using the swager I havent had to remove hardly any material.:D

I bought a boatload of Federal bulk 22LR from Cabellas a few years ago, but it turns out that it doesn't shoot very accurately out of my 15-22. :( I used to attribute the poor groups on the rifle having so many FTEs so that I could never get in rhythm. But even after I got it back from S&W service (it shoots flawlessly now) I still get poor groups. Very frustrating.

Anyway, I now have a Bushnell red dot on it so I'll take it to the 50 yard line and give it another go.

Check your barrel nut. See if your barrel has ANY play or wobble in it. The nut can work loose over time... I woulda thunk S&W would have checked that ? It takes a special SHOO Wrench to tighten it. They can be found at Brownells. Handy when you need one to get down in there along the barrel. :D Mine eats Fed Bulk 550's like candy...

I held the upper and tried to move the barrel and it didn't budge, unless the wobble is very, very subtle. Maybe I just need to shoot it more.

A good break-in works wonders. Mine was less picky as time went on.

The barrel nut was a problem in some models. If the target starts getting key holes or the shot group opens up like a shotgun blast,it's a good sign the nut is coming loose...

I don't think I've put more than 1000 rounds through it. Partly because it's a PITA to reload the mags, and partly because I started having too much fun shooting my centerfire guns. :)

I've got around 15-20 times that. :D Been teaching the Grandkids how to shoot. Needless to say, they are very progun.:D

I load mine while watching TV. More mags... :D

I have 8 mags, but they're CA-compliant 10 round jobs. I've taken them pre-loaded mags to the range only to find myself with eight empties after five minutes. :D

If I had a stack of 25 round mags it would be a whole different story. haha

Scored!

So, Grover said "no pics, it didn't happen" huh. Well here you go. I just scored 5lb of Varget and 250 Hornady 168gr Amax bullets for $230 from a local source. He hates price gougers so he is buying and selling with same mark up as BCT (before Connecticut). Not shown in the pic are the 1000 CCI large and 1000 CCI small primers (gotta just take that one on faith Grover :) ). The cigar box contains 1000 Hornady 55gr .223 match bullets and the little green boxs are 100 rounds each Sierra Match King 168gr .308.

My little project is starting to have some possibilities.
