Hi guys,
I'm ready to put a bipod on my 15-22 and am interested in your advise on which one to purchase and any adapters that may be needed to install it.
Thank you,
Rusty

I am partial to the Harris bipod with the LaRue quick disconnect mount. They have several to choose from. Most of my shooting is done standing, so I don't want my bipod on at all times and IMO, LaRue makes the best mounts anywhere.

Have you thought about a Grip-pod?... I have one on my Block1 clone and love it!... Check em out... Also my local Walmart sells a Harris knockoff that is actually nice... 1/3rd the money of the Harris and just as nice.(ive got both)

What Jim said Harris is by far the best in my opinion. But be ready or the price tag. Black hawk makes a cheaper unit that gets good reviews. I've got 4 sets of Harris bipods and have never had a single problem with them.

I have a Harris on mine and like it a lot. I looked at a couple of cheeper ones but they had to much movement to them.

I also believe the general rule of thumb is you want one 9" + to clear a 25rd mag.

My newest Harris bipod is 12 years old, have a total of five, and never had a problem. I have shooting buddies that bought the "discount" models, and found out why Harris costs more -- better quality and trouble free.

I went cheap and bought a UTG Bipod. For as much as I'll use it I couldn't justify a Harris, but if I were going to use one regularly I'd have gone with Harris. Time will tell if I made the right choice.

For shooting off the bench, the UTG will probably be fine. For actual, on your belly in the field use, maybe or maybe not.

I wouldn't use a Harris with just my 15-22, as IMO that would be overkill. However, with the LaRue quick disconnect, you can use it on multiple guns. I bought it initially for my SHTF AR, as with that gun I want the best money can buy. Beauty of the rail system on the AR platform, is that it is so easy to share accessories between multiple guns. I can only shoot one at a time anyway. I have a shelf loaded with attachments that can be added to either gun within seconds, depending on my needs for that occasion. Some keep all accessories on their guns at all times. Me, I add only as needed.

need to determine:

#1 budget
#2 length of bipod required (see #3)
#3 primary type of shooting (bench etc)
#4 do you need tilt / swivel

at least that's the questions I asked myself

I have non-swiveling shooters ridge bipods on my 15-22 and Savage MKII but my Steyr SSG came with a Harris. To be perfectly honest.. I didn't notice that much difference other then being able swivel and lock it down with a pod-loc lever. I shoot from the bench most of the time.

I swap my Harris between five different rifles, as conditions require. I use the standard sling attachment point on four of my rifles and then put a QD mount on the Harris for the 15-22.

Same here.

I tried doing this with a Caldwell I got as a Christmas gift and the thumb screw stripped out. It looks like a Harris, but it's not built like a Harris.

I looked at the Harris setups and really liked them however at that time, it was tough selling to the wife. She has eased up a bit since then but probably because I promised to take her purse shopping...I pay up this Friday :(

I really don't plan on removing the Caldwell off my 15-22 often and since most of my shooting will be off the bench, hopefully I won't run into the same thumb screw problem. If it does, I'll probably end up with a Harris.

+1

I have a Harris as well and use the American Defense QD bipod mount. Works wounders and attaches in seconds on what ever rifle I am shooting (with bottom picatinny rail)

If cost isn't an issue, I can't recommend this one enough...it's amazing - Atlas with American Defense QR mount:

I might have to replace this in future but for $21.50 this one hasn't failed me yet for a .22 I am not running around dropping rifle so it may or may not hold up. Probably will not last as long as the high priced ones but I bet even those fail. I have used this off ground in prone and what we use as bench old folding table. The 25 round mag will work depending on angle of shot, but then just throw a sand bag under it and just enough hieght.404 - Document Not Found

Vanguard Equalizer Pro! Highly recommend it!

I was actually looking hard at the Vanguard equalizer 1qs and it seems pretty nice. I will mainly be using the bipod for bench shooting so could you tell me the difference between this one and the pro model. I notice that the feet are different and the way that you extend the legs are different but do you think the extra cost for bench shooting would be worth it ?
Thank you and everybody else that has replied to my request for help in this decision .
