"Wheelgun" and "wheelie" - Is it just me?

Guns

How did it go in boot camp . This is my pistol this is my gun , ones for shootin and ones for fun

I hate to hear a transmission called a "trannie". Reminds me of a child calling a blanket a "blankie". Where have the real men gone?

I detest the term "wheel gun". and "boolits" is an indication of ignorance. I do have one rifle that I have named. When a friend died of a heart attack, I bought one of the new Winchester 1892 Deluxe Takedown rifles. I named the rifle after my friend. We'll never go shooting together again, but when I shoot that rifle, I'm shooting "John's Rifle".

I don't like the "wheel-gun/wheelie" term either, but I guess someone came up with it. It's not even a wheel. It's a steel cylinder. Other nicknames that I don't like hearing are "wonder-9's", "thuddy-thuddy (30-30)", or calling all semi-auto's "assault weapons". What can you do though? ... I've always called my guns by manufacturer and model name. And for some reason when I hear someone say "my Smith & Wesson", I instinctively always think they are referring to a revolver.

Some of the names are irritating to me too but just figure that's the way language progesses these days. I'm mainly happy they're shooting guns and not trying to restrict the use and ownership of them.

"BOOLITS"
does it to me.

I hate THAT term. It annoys me to type it.....every time I recommend the Cast Boolits forum to someone seeking casting information. Great Forum with a few silly tendencies.

And over on THAT forum...they refer to jacketed bullets with other silly euphemisms as though jacketed bullets were as sleazy as child pornographers. Simply silly and childish.

i havent named any of my guns or hammers, saws etc i own mostly revolvers and a couple bottom feeders and they are all pistols
but i drive a CHEVY truck, and my 67 camaro's name is Cammie not that i say it out loud much, but there it is. guess im not very manly when it comes to cars haha oh yeah she's got a m-20 Tranny too...sadly she cant do Wheelies ...maybe if she was a FUELLY and had some FATTIES out back:)

The Oxford English Dictionary says that the work "pistol" dates to about 1570 and is defined as a small firearm with a curved handle intended to be fired with one hand...hence the term being applied to revolvers prior to the development of the self-loading firearm now known as a "pistol", while revolver is preferred for those which revolve. As we've seen even recently, words or terms to describe something frequently change. "Illegal aliens" are no more...replaced by "temporary guests" and other tags. Perhaps "assault weapons" will morph into "unattractive and potentially troublesome tools while in the wrong hands?" My Grandad always said, "Don't care what you call me as long as it isn't late for dinner!" Also, "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet."

All the 'Remmie,,Winnie,,Shottie, Wheelie, Front Stuffer' stuff I could do with out,,but I call most any handgun a 'pistol' and that bothers some people. They give you a Pistol Permit.

Maybe we're all even.

Too late in life to let it really bother me.

Maybe I'll start casting boolits again,,they seemed to shoot harder.

..and my Dad was issued the M3 in WW2 as a Tank driver. He always refered to it as an M3 GreaseGun

I never heard "Wheelgun" until Mel Gibson uttered it in Lethal Weapon, in 1987.
