Anyone else swap out their plastic rod and stock spring for the Galloway Precision assembly? I went with the polished stainless rod and standard 17lb spring, and really like how it feels.

The first thing I noticed was that it was easier to put the slide assembly together. The tail of the guide rod fits much better and is doesn't slide around like the factory plastic rod did.

The second thing I noticed was the sound of the of the weapon changed when you rack the slide back...it sounds metallic, more like it should.

The third thing I noticed is accuracy increased slightly...but that may be more me than the handgun.

I think it was $30 well spent.

Anyhow, here's the link to their Sigma and SD product page.

Yes, I did, and I also ordered the stock recoil spring weight. I don't know how much money S&W saved by using a plastic recoil spring guide rod and a plastic rear sight, but it's hard to believe that it was significant enough to warrant it. I suppose I can see the plastic guide rod, but it's hard to believe that S&W achieved cost savings on the rear sight when they could have just used the rear sight from the M&P series, and then they wouldn't have had to develop and stock the sight for the SD series. (I am installing the rear sight from a M&P 9 on my SD9VE.)

I guess there might be savings be based on the number of these pistols S&W makes...and at least S&W does include two magazines...which is something that not all manufacturers do, even on pistols costing a great deal more money, like Kimber for example.

I swapped mine out with a 15# stainless rod. I like it. Pretty much everything else has been said above.

Are these available for 3rd generation S&W? My CS9 has a plastic rod and I would be interested in swapping it?

I wasn't able to locate a source for one, however...if you live near a machine shop, and/or know someone that does, you should be able to have one made rather cheaply. I can't imagine a one off costing more than $50. It's less than an hour on the lathe to make it, from raw stock to polished final piece. If they tell you it's a couple of hours to make one, find another place.

Thanks for the information.
