For $1,000, what firearm would you buy?

The best early-production (first 20 years or so) Winchester 1892 or 1894 I could find for the money. Caliber wouldn't necessarily matter much, but I'd lean toward .25-20 or .32-20 for the 1892 and .25-35 for the 1894.

I'd like to have a stainless steel Colt Commander and box of critical defense ammo just to blend in with the 629's.

A NIB, untouched by human hands Model 19 2&1/2". The one that's stored in the lower desk drawer of the S&W CEO. I'm really really sure there's one in there.

Pretty sure the CEO has a sweet 9 mm Shield in his desk drawer. At least one drawer. I would try and get a evil black rifle for my grand.

My answer doesnt follow the rule. First I am fortunate to own many desireable old classics. Unless I stumble across a huge bargin of something I really really like, I wont be buying another gun. 90% of the ones I have never get shot. I dont want to be a wet blanket but at my point on this knotted rope in life I cant justify a $1,000s on more guns.
Now if I won some sort of lotto ticket that was useless on anything but a gun, it would be a old classic winchester 92 or maybe a colt new service, colt national match, something along those lines. Truth is I should be selling some of my stuff in this market but I aint ready ------yet.

Only a grand?? Most everything that gets me excited is pretty far on the north side of that any more......let's see....I'd probably do a pawnshop crawl and pick up a couple Smiths. I need (NEED!) something from the 1890's, 1900's, 1910's, and 1920's, then I'd have all the decades of hand ejectors well represented.....maybe a Victory or a K38 from the '40s would be good....

An Austin PD Heavy-Duty if I could find a nice one for that. If not, the oldest 6 1/2" .44 Magnum I could get. I kept it limited to the subjects of this forum.

Lately I've really been liking some of the models Ruger has been putting out. I'd probably go for a Wiley Clapp 3" GP100 or the SR1911. Would be hard to decide which one.

Without thinking too hard, I would probably pick up a CMP Garand @ $950. I have also had a nagging feeling I should have another 1896 Mauser Military (broomhandle).

You just can't have too many SAA's. I think I could find a fairly nice one for $1K. Make? C'mon now, no pony? it's a phony!
