Welcome to the forum. The 657 went into production in 1986 and the 4" 657 was discontinued in 1988. I'd say $950 is on the high side of the scale.....but I have seen like new and N.I.B. one go for over $1400 on Gun Broker. You didn't say what condition it is in, but if it is 98% with original box, papers and tools I'd say make and offer on it and if they won't move on the price you'll still be doing okay at the $950.

Model 57-1 4" nickel and Model 57 6".

41 mag is my favorite revolver caliber.

Also have a Marlin 1894 in 41mag and a Thompson Center Contender rifle barrel to go with my 57s.

Not sure how many were made as S&W only marketed the 4" 657 for two years but one sees far more 3" Combat Specials than the Plain Jane 4" guns.. Last one I saw on GunBroker was in excellent condition and sold for for just over $1000.00. One a few months ago was in the $1200 range. Also excellent, no box. So $950 while no bargain is a very reasonable price for a seldom seen gun... No brainer...sell the XDM..it can always be replaced...not so the 657. Also the price on these keep going up...

Just put some new grips on mine...I've had this one for about 10 years and is a great shooter...

How long is your .41 TC barrel... I bought one of the Super 16s that were offered by the TC Collector's Association... Great shooter...

It started as a 14" but i have a muzzle extension added to it for rifle use.

an awesome posting of my favorite caliber, some day soon will learn how to post pics and put my herd up, have a couple of 58's, a number of 57's, a few 657's and then a couple of rugers as well, oh yes a TC regular 41 and then a Reeder 41 GNR#2. An 8&3/8 inch is my usual hunting gun these days

Posting pics ain't hard, so we'll hold you to that promise!

A Ruger and a Marlin.

...and a Smith.

I want a 3" 657 so bad I can taste it but alas...none too common. I even have a 3" 624 I would trade. Also want a blue 5" Redhawk but they are less common than the 3" 657.

Nice collection 1mathom1. Good luck in your quest for a 3" 657 and 5.5" blue Redhawk. There are always several 3" 657s on the auction sites but I've only seen two in the wild over the years, one I bought back in 1988 and the other was an engraved one that I wish I did buy :) The blue Ruger Redhawk 5.5" is rarely seen anywhere and it took me until this past year to find one.

Nice .41's fellas. I'm waiting for one in the mail I just traded a 629 for a 6" 657, once that arrives I'll be up to four .41 mags, 3", 4", 5", and 6" and I'll have to get them all together for a family photo
