shield 9mm vs XDS 9mm

I'm an M&P fan. Sold my Glock and XDM, once I got the Shield and replaced them with the M&P line. It really depends on what fits your hand. Once you find a gun that fits your hand, you won't want any other brand.

I own a full size XD 45 and a Shield 9mm and the XD feels like a 2x4 in hand after handling my Shield.

If I didn't have so many extra high capacity 45 magazines I would sell the XD and buy a full size M&P.

P.S. At 7 yards I can shoot my Shield 9mm more accurately than my full size XD 45.

I know it's just me, but "Made in Croatia" is a hill too far for me. Convince me I'm wrong.

Strangely enough "made in" Germany, Austria, or the Czech Republic are no problem for me. Maybe because of their firearm making histories.

What do you mean? You can find shields for msrp, some times under or very close to msrp all the time. You just have to look. I've personally bought three. First one $475 delivered. Second $412 delivered for my father in law and just picked up another for my wife $475 delivered. Helped two buddies find theirs also both at msrp. Only people who are too lazy to look buy at "hundreds " over msrp or who were dumb enough to pre pay at their local gun shop for one. Of course your going to wait for it they already have your money. S&W hit it out the park with the Shield!

Really?! You had to there about pre-pay?:p I trust my LGS completly. I pre-paid for 2. Put me at the top of the list, and paid under retail. Sure. I had to wait, but I had my other M&P's to keep me company.;) Mike

My dad just bought a 9mm Shield from his LGS where it sat for 4 days without anyone picking it up. They where charging $465 before tax, but the guy owed my dad some favors and sold it to him for $385 before tax. I originally suggested he buy one and told him that if he dosn't like it, I'll certainly buy it off him even though my XDS 45acp is my EDC.

I Pre-paid for 2, M&P40 Shields last June of 2012. This put me at the top of there waiting list and they cut each gun $50 because of the pre-pay. Each gun cost me $399.99, I had to wait 5 months for the first to come in, and 7 months for the second. Say what you want about the prepay, but I have 2 Shields and I know several guys that cannot find one locally. I love this gun and it is with me all the time.

I have an XDs in .45 and a Shield in 9mm. If S&W made the Shield in .45, I'd order one in a minute (don't read that to mean I'd part with the XDs). The XDs is a very nice little pistol, but I like the feel of the Shield. I'm going to have to get a Shield in .40 S&W so I can set it up to convert between .40 and 9mm.

I prefer the sights on the XDs. S&W just doesn't spend the bucks on decent sights.

I would not get the XDS 9mm for the wife. I have handled one that the Springfield truck had on display. The slide on it is as hard to pull back as the 45 is. I also have the XDS 45 and the 9mm Shield. Both pistols are very close in size. The safety on the Shield does not bother me I prefer it to the grip safety on the XDS. But for a lady I really think the slide would be a issue. Heck it is for a lot of guys to.
I actually prefer my Shield am thinking of picking one up in 40 cal. As for availability I walked right into my LGS and picked one up last year and their available today in the same LGS for 409 9mm or 40 cal.

in my area, shields availability was ok up until the panic that started in December. then it went bonkers. I attribute it to more people wanting to carry concealed and the shield being a gun designed for that purpose. the " hundreds of dollars over MSRP" is not due to poor production effort from S&W, but rather abnormal market conditions associated with the panic - as far as I can tell.

We got 15 of the Xds in 9 and .45 acp and,we also got 20 of the shields in also at the shop so,I took 1 Shield and compared it to the 9mm xds and the trigger on the xds is better made. And,easier to pull compared to the Shield. Shooting, recoil,is about close to the same for both pistols. Now I have 2 9 mms,the Shield and xds to carry.

What were they selling the XDS9mm for. I have the XDS in 45 and the Shield 9mm. What do you mean by the trigger on the XDS is better made. My Shield trigger pull is about the same as my XDS.

I've owned an XDS .45 briefly, but didn't care for it. From what I have read, the XDS 9mm is the same pistol just re-calibered to 9mm, so your wife should be able to get a rough idea of how she might like it by handling your XDS .45 (I don't know if the slide would be any easier to rack on the 9mm, if that's an issue for her on the .45; it might be easier on the 9mm.)

Springfield makes good 1911s, but I'm not wild about their XD line. Springfield also has excellent customer service, so that doesn't differentiate the two. Around here, the XDS sells for a lot more than the Shield, so that is a consideration. For me, I prefer the made-in-America Shield. As has been mentioned, she doesn't need to use the thumb safety.

I was able to handle and look at a XDS in 9mm when the Springfield truck came to an even here. To me the slide felt about the same. The XDS 9mm actually weights more than there XDS 45. I think for a compact 9mm of the same size I like my Shield much better. I had a XD 40 and sold it as the bore axis was higher and was not comfortable shooting it. Looking at a M&P 40C just have to save up a few dollars.

Good luck. I'm gonna fan boy it alittle here, but part of the reason we buy S&W is the customer service. When they announced the Shield it was in stores that day with aftermarket accessories. You cant find a xds9 anywhere ahd probably won't for a while. I hate when a company announces a product and makes you wait. I can't wait to check one out myself.

I do completely agree. It needs to be available when announced. That being said...I have yet to see a Shield. Rare bird in these parts.

The XDS 45 is a very reliable weapon that shoots with a lot less recoil than would be expected of such a small 45. I'm sure the 9mm version will be excellent as well.

Yep the Shield is still a rare species to find at the LGS even though its no longer a "new cool" weapon. So there must be a reason the gun is still so sought after. And of course the XDS is pretty readily available. You could stop by a few LGS and one of them usually has one or two hanging out.

When the XDS starts selling as fast as the Shield and becomes as hard to find as the Shield for as long as the Shield has. THEN, i'll believe that just "maybe" Springfield is onto a nice weapon. But in the mean time, comparing a Springfield to Smith is like comparing a Taurus to a Colt.

My little brother some time back sold his XDS for $200 more than he bought it for. A week later I found him a Shield .40 in which he added another $250 or so to the original $200 extra he got off the sell of his XDS. Needless to say he thought that extra $250 he spent out of his pocket for his Shield .40 was the best money he ever spent.
I paid $569 for my XDS. If I add to that $200 plus another $250 then that's $1,019 total...wow! I must be reading that wrong. By the way I will put my 15 yr old Taurus PT 92 up against a Colt or S&W any day for quality, accuracy and reliability. Not saying that for any Taurus...just mine.

Shields here are in stock and selling at my LGS for 409.00 either caliber. The XDS at the same LGS are selling them for 525.00 and they are in stock. :)
