When will the M&P magazine supply issue be solved

Our LGS just received a large number of M&P .40 15 round mags. I saw something like 75-100 on the shelf yesterday.

At $46 a magazine, I'd have the night shift elves working on new magazines.

Not 100 % true. LGS are smarter than we give them credit for. If you NEED 9mm ammo and your LGS is the only one around that has it. Your buying from the LGS that sold the mags a a higher price. It's pretty simple, supply and demand during a shortage or not if you need it you will buy it

Say what you will; but supply and demand only works in a free market, the threat of a ban puts artificial constraints and demand on that market. I'm keeping score as well, very few places I will deal with anymore, my money will support the folks who support my 2a right, not try to exploit my right.

anyone found any mags yet. also what is the difference between sku 39340 and sky 19440? will both work in an m&p 9? you would figure there would be some aftermarket mags avaiable by now with the demand being so high for these mags.

S&W M&P 9MM C magazines wanted

I am trying to locate at least 2 if not 4, S&W M&P 9MM C 12 round magazines, preferably with finger rests.

ebay prices are way to high for what is offered and at this time there is only 1.

Is there anyone willing to spare any at a decent price, without gouging?

Guys-

Apologies if this has been asked before, but will there ever be a time in the future that S&W will offer the 17 round 9mm magazines or other full size (they are not high capacity, IMHO) magazines again? I see the gouging going on for a few mags here and there, but I was hoping that S&W would offer the right size mags so we can buy them once again.

The mag shortage will end when the golfers go back to golf. Until then, I'd contact gregcotellc. Greg always has fair prices and inventory better than most. If he doesn't have them, he will email you when he does.

Well, that's gone.

I will be doing a post soon about an alternative to the pinky rest and it serves as a plus-2 adapter as well. :)

I also cannot understand why S&W has been unable to produce M&P9 mags for the past 7 months. I have seen plenty of mags available for every other brand of pistol, but these M&P9 mags are vaporware. It is really annoying to spend half your time at the range reloading mags because you only have 3. To be honest, I think it reflects very very poorly on S&W and I probably would not have purchased an M&P had I known of this ridiculous shortage that they have no intention of addressing.

I'm not sure it's fair to say that they have no intention of addressing it. This is second-hand info, but another shooter told me he chatted with a Smith & Wesson rep at a recent match and asked about this issue. The rep said that S&W is in the process of setting up a new production line JUST for making magazines. However, it's going to take a while, so it could still be many months before we start to see an improvement.

I agree with you, though, that this doesn't reflect well on S&W. I've recently noticed that the supply of new M&Ps is improving, which tells me that S&W is allocating most (or all) of their magazine production for the new guns. I'm sure that's more profitable for them, but it doesn't show much of a commitment to take care of existing customers.

I was told by a retailer who owns his business that the rep told him Mec-Gar makes the 9mm and .40 mags and someone else the .45.

Mec-Gar must be at seam-bursting capacity.

I bet S&W is peeved right now as their customers are frustrated.

They make the OEM mags for many... they help design the things, not just stamp them out...

If that's so -- and it certainly sounds plausible -- then I'd say it's time for S&W to hire some additional subcontractors. Which may be exactly what they're doing, if what I heard is correct.

Seems to me there's a substantial moneymaking opportunity here for anybody who has the tools and expertise to manufacture magazines. Either make a deal with S&W to make the official ones, or give ProMag some competition.

For some reason the M&P 9s seem to have gotten very popular ( I also understand that the Glock 19 is difficult to find at the moment). On top of that, I would not put it past the hoarders to be buying up M&P 9 & 40 mags as fast as they can get to them. I would guess that S&W and or their mag supplier has put manufacture of the 10-round 9 mags on hold while trying to keep up with demand for the standard capacity mags. I don't have a clue when it will end, but I'm like everyone else in that I'm getting tired of it. I hate the fact that my Walmart hasn't had 22LR on the shelves for months...

I called S&W accessory sales this morning because I too am seeing two different part numbers online for the 9mm 17 rd. mags. I specifically asked what the current part number is for the mags and he said 39490000A. I should have asked what the difference was between this p/n and the 194400000.

Not that I've seen any available of either p/n, but does anyone know what the differences might be?

I don't know the answer, but the pictures I've seen for the 19440 sure don't look like the mags that came with my late-2012 M&P. That doesn't mean the pictures are accurate, of course.

I have 3 OEM 17 round magazines for sale if anyone is interested. They are lightly used, but the price isn't as high as some people.

I'm looking for $50 a magazine. Just want to get a back what I paid. I only put 50 rounds through each.

Is S&W no longer supporting 17rd mags

WOW... I've been waiting for months, checking about 1-2 times a months, at the S&W store to see when they will stock the 17 rd magazine (39490000A). I went today and find that they removed reference to all 17rd round magazines for the M&P.

Conducted a search and all I got was

"Your search - 39490000A - did not match any documents. No pages were found containing "39490000A"."

Is S&W no longer supporting 17rd mags for the guns they sell?

I'm sure they have no plans of stopping support for or producing 17 round 9mm magazines. That would be a death sentence for the M&P 9.

When things start to return to whatever the new normal is the mags will be available. I have 6 17 rounders and had no trouble finding them before things got crazy. It just is a bad situation for newer M&P 9 owners right now.

I couldn't agree more with Sherderp! I put an order in for 2 extra mags for my M&P9c in late Dec. Sure in the first few months of the year I bought the story of the run on all mags as attempted gun control gained momentum. But that's history now thanks to everyones hard work. Ruger and Springfield both filled my backorders by March. I have stopped even considering buying another S&W at this point until the company steps up and services their existing customer base. I grew up with S&P's and they are damn good guns, but any company who can not fulfill a magazine order in 7 months has damn poor management and customer care. In 7 months they could have bought new tooling and set up additional lines. Shame on them for treating their loyal customers this way!

Like Blue9 said, if they stop sales of 17rd. mags, it would kill off the M&P9 and new/used M&P9s would flood the shelves forever.

The CS reps are saying that they're putting them in the new M&Ps hitting the shelves. What they must not understand is that a person looking to purchase his first M&P goes to a local shop, says he'll take the M&P, asks about extra mags then the clerk says they're unobtainable or $100 each. Customer frowns, decides to look down the case and asks to see a Glock,XD,SR9 or pretty much any other pistol other than an M&P.

It dosn't do any good to have lots of M&Ps on the shelves and no magazines. The only thing I can hope for is that S&W is waiting to have a boat load of them to distribute all at once so gougers aren't taking advantage on buying small quantities that show up and charging four times over the normal price.
