I have a flat latch model 36, I'm trying to determine a value for a buddy of mine. He picked it up for $200. Did he get a good buy on it? How much is it worth? Can anyone tell me a little history about it from the Serial?
*honestly I'm a bit jealous he scored it*

Serial# 1330XX.
There is some pitting on the top of the frame. Is there a way to remove the pitting or is he stuck like that? Timing is good, and it locks up tight. Mechanically it's very sound.

Thanks in advance for any help guys!

Working slowly and gently with oil and 4-0 steel wool will get a lot, if not all the rust off. Then he can tell if it is badly pitted or not.

yeah he done good...... the pitting may keep it from being a collectible, but I bet its a great little shooter.... Id give 200 all day long for that beauty!

oil?

Tom,

What kind of oil would work best for this?

Thanks, everyone for your thought!

He scored for $200! I bought a 1981-ish model 36 a few months ago for $300 in much the same condition and felt I did OK. Actually mine didn't have any rust, but the blueing was dull in a few spots and just about non-existant on the sideplate. In fact, I'm wondering if the sideplate is off another gun, as the blueing is a lot worse than the rest of the gun and it's a bit of a loose fit to boot.
After you remove the rust, don't forget to touch up any bare metal with some sort of cold blue.I've had pretty good luck with "oxpho blue".
