Found this one sitting is a yard, under a tree, for 15 years, covered in algae and moss. The conditions including the moss kinda preserved it. There is not a speck of rust inside, outside or underneath. Weird. Regards, John

That's very surprising. Must have been "magic" moss. ;)

hey OP, its members like you that make this site great. even our worst members are still some great guys. keep fighting the fight man. stay easy, shoot a lot, and be happy.

Thanks SpicyTunaRoll. Your making me hungry. Yes, will fight the good fight. And shoot a lot. Got a few thousand rounds piled up waiting for a 15-22 that works :)
As I mentioned before, as my bum unit gets a look by S&W, my son's will be here hopefully tomorrow. I'll wipe it down, frog-lube it a bit, and hit the range. Plus it is doctors orders!
Warm Regards, John

Recommend when U get the firearm back from repair that U go to the range and learn to shoot offhand. Thing with an semi automatic, it can eject high energy projectiles if it malfunctions for any one of several reasons. Shooting Right handed gets UR parts out of the way more so. With a few trips to the range U can become accustomed to it and do better each time. When I had my old place I could fire my 1911 offhand driving down my ditch in the back timberland and never have to search for the casings. All would be in the bed of the pickup box. I got perty good offhand while moving past targets by the bank of the ditch. I had bulldozed the 1/8 mile long bank and enjoyed many intrigues in that thar area. Maybe 60,000 rounds into that bank, sometimes from the Combine when moving it to the other place.

Thank you; excellent advice. I do shoot lefty and righty with my 3 pistols. I am spoiled by my lefty RRA AR-15 platform unit. But I plan on trying to get accustomed to shooting righty with the 15-22. BTW, still waiting for paperwork from S&W to send this bum unit back! Getting a little frustrated on how long it takes to get this paperwork? Hope to get it soon?
Warm Regards, John

i'm surprised it is taking this long for the label. mine had to go back also. i called them on a thursday, they suggested that i fill out the form online and i had an email with the label early the next morning. i'm not sure if they automatically generate the email or someone has to process it.

Thanks. If not here today, I will call them. I sent an e-mail, however they "auto replied" that they are backed up 5 business days! Regards, John

Well, it has been over a week since I first contacted S&W to arrange shipping back my lemon 15-22 MOE. Nothing so far from them regarding shipping labels as promised. Called them today and they indicated they are very backed up. I should have by next week! So, two weeks wait just to get paperwork to return the lemon. Wonder how long it will take to get looked at and repaired? In the meantime, my son's base unit arrived, and I quickly readied it for the range. It fired perfectly. No more brass shooting out at 4-5 o'clock or straight into my face. No misfires, no stovepipes, nothing. So, now I hope they fix my MOE in a timely manner? Here is the new unit along side big brother. Regards, John

At this point nothing from S&W to get this rifle returned. If anyone has any suggestions, please advise. They do not respond to e-mails and after waiting on the phone for 45 minutes, the answer I get is that the paperwork is in the mail? I get USPS mail from all over the country in 1 to 2 business days. So lemon gun sits. Cannot wait to see how long it sits at S&W; (if it ever gets there). This thing did not shoot properly right out of the box. Of course gun shop will not accept return. And credit card will not allow any recourse (refund) because it is a firearm. My return number is 1617016 issued 8/16, if anyone here has a string to pull! Will keep you posted. Warm Regards, John

I would imagine S&W is fielding many calls and emails in regards to the M&P Shield Trigger Safety Alert that was announced last week. I don't think they will let you hang high and dry. It's just a bad set of circumstances and your one of many that need to get a problem resolved. Things will work out.....

Thanks. That probably explains it. Bad timing on my part! Regards, John

Sorry to hear about your issues. I would call, as emails can just get dumped into their spam box and I can only imagine how many emails a company the size of S&W gets! When calling, remain calm but firm in demanding that a RMA be sent immediately and advise that they have already promised to do so the last time that you called.

If the firearm was to be replaced, they could actually put the same serial number on a new rifle and ship it straight back to you. Doubt they would go to the trouble as it's easier to just send you a new one. Never hurts to ask though.

Good luck brother.

Try swapping the bolt group from one riffle to the other. It may solve your problem and S&W could send you a new bolt group instead of shuffling the riffle through the mail.

Great idea. Tried it, but no go. Same issues. When I switched the entire upper, it ran fine. So must be the upper, most likely the black metal hook (extractor) that is out of whack. It is really chewed up. Regards, John

hang in there John.... S&W will make it right..... sucks about the long wait for the return label... but Im sure they are busy

Thanks for the optimism! Looking forward to getting it repaired. Regards, John

I like that SN swap idea! John

Since you now have a functioning unit to compare to, check the ejector hooks. On the one that functions correctly, it should be solid and immovable. Does the ejector on the bad unit wiggle?
My 15-22 had a loose ejector that I could wiggle around about 1/16" in all directions, in out, left right, etc. Needless to say it was a jam-o-matic. It took 3 trips back to the factory and on the third one a rather impolite letter enclosed in the box with explicit instructions to replace the ejector before they finally fixed it. It now runs like a sewing machine, but it was a struggle getting it there. I know that's not what you want to hear, and it is only a sample size of one, but someone was asleep in the S&W repair center when my rifle was sent back the first two times.
Good luck, you may need it.
