Hi Everyone. I read the article stating the M&P is using a new barrel, however, it didn't clarify if the new barrel was only for the M&P 9 or included changes tot he M&P 40 barrel as well. Thank you for your help.

Thanks Doc. Could anyone let me know exactly what was shared on the .40 barrel? Was it just the twist rate?

Interesting question, but I bought a .40 CORE over the weekend and it has the 1 dot on the bottom which is the 3rd gen barrels (the 9mm barrels with the new twist rate have this). All my guns besides my Shield (carry gun) stay in palm beach, I work in the hospital all week long ( residency) so it will be at least this weekend before I'm back to actually physically compare the twist rate to my full size .40 made last year.

If they changed the twist rates on the .40s its' not a big deal either way, I get good a accuracy from either one.

Thanks Doc for your help. Would appreciate it if you could check your .40 full size. Also, how does the dot on bottom of the barrel look like (pictures would help)?

Is the updated barrel only to change twist rate?

Thank you.

This link is insightful, they changed some external geometry as well. If I was around my barrels I could make a direct comparison, but unfortunately I'm not right now and won't be for at least another 4 days.&

Regarding the. 40, my "old" gun from last year worked and you won't see me trading the full size or compact in anytime soon, so at least with .40 nothing is wrong with the old barrels. I shot my new gun this past weekend and can say nothing is wrong with the new .40 barrels either!

I am looking to purchase a NIB full size M&P9 for IDPA. Can anyone tell me when they started shipping with the updated barrel? (Mfg Date or Serial Number?) I would like to make sure I get one with the updated barrel.

Thanx.

Welcom to the forum,

There wasn't a defined date, it was a rolling change. If you find one that was recently manufactured you "Should" be safe. If you can inspect it and take the slide off before purchase, look for the three recent production changes noted here. http://smith-wessonforum.com/smith-...duction-updates-slide-stops-barrels-sear.html

It will help you identify if it has the latest barrel and trigger upgrades. The newer triggers are very nice.

Good luck!

I did paperwork on a M&P 9mm FDE range kit at Cabela's over the weekend. It'll be another 8-10 days until I can pick it up. I did notice the test fired case was from June of this year so hopefully it'll have all the latest updates. Details to follow...
