2A issues can be discussed without general political commentary and/or non-related commentary about Obama.
Politics- Fair Warning
It gets real monotonous having to say the same thing all the time.

VP Biden announced that our President signed a new executive order. This order will prohibite the importation of any military surplus firearms that the U.S. had lent or sold to allies at anytime in the past. This would include WW2 era M1 Garand rifles. Mr. Biden stated that by prohibiting the importation of these military firearms, it would keep such firepower off the streets and out of the hands of the gangs. (Are M1s a favorite weapon on the street?) Insofar as this order extends to any military rifle we ever sold or lent overseas, it would apply to any of the lever action Winchester rifles we lent to Turkey, or the Winchester Mdl. 1895s we lent to Russia in WW1. A second executive order pertained to organizations, corporations, institutions etc. It was confusing to me, but I think it applied to any entitiy that tried to purchase firearms would have to pass a background check, or maybe the entities CEO and board had to pass a background check. Our President is keeping his promise to bypass congress in order to keep us safe from guns.

I just read that. Sounds like no more Garands and such from overseas again. Whatever happened to representative govt.? It's getting to be " ruled by edicts " anymore.
Prices were just STARTING to come down a little. Goodbye to that!

Thank goodness. The plague of the M1 Garand being used by gang bangers and common thieves may finally be getting addressed. I know I live in mortal terror of yet another drive by shooting using 60 year old rifles that even Feinstein hasn't figured out how to define as an "assault weapon".

$10 says more people are killed by the Raven MP-25 in a year than have been killed in total by all military surplus weapons brought back since the end of WWII.

The only good news in this is that executive orders are easily reversed by the next President. We just need to make sure the next President isn't of the same political ilk as this one.

PS - another order requires the fingerprinting and such for NFA gun trusts, which I really don't have a problem with but again does nothing to address any real issue of gun violence. People putting $15K NFA weapons in trusts and paying lawyers aren't going out on drive by shootings. Another "solution" in search of a problem.

AP reported it. It was a headline on Drudge for the better part of the morning.

Well for better or worse , I guess the value of the Garands and Carbines we have now will keep going up.

Since it says 'military rifles' , I gotta believe that means 1903s , 1917s , and any .22s with US stamped on them. :(

Probably sounds the death bell for the CMP!

It even on the .gov website. He also signed one shutting down the trust "loophole" for nfa items.

Mr. Obama had been under pressure from some congress persons, the NRA, several guns rights groups and individuals to allow the importation of some M1 carbines, M1 Garands and some rifles and pistols from the WWI era back into the U.S. I am sure every gang banger lusts after a genuine S&W 1917 revolver. I guess this is his answer to reasonable requests to bring some of our former military small arms back home.

I read that today too...This probably will need to go under the 2nd Amendment forum...But to me....It seems like the barn door is trying to be closed after the horse has already been let out.

?????? Just put a scope on a M1, re-import it and call it a "Sporting Rifle":eek::eek::eek:

WuzzFuzz

ATF had even approved the importation and Hillary overruled it via the State Dept. and now he cements it in this order.

Beyond the pro/anti gun debate, this is just silliness. It just shows his "the only good gun is a chopped up gun" view of the issue. his "sporting gun" nonsense is shown to be a lie by this order which bans guns that have no role in US gun violence, many of which are almost laughably unsuited to the kind of crime being committed with guns.

A man who bans 60 year old rifles with no criminal use is not going to stop with high capacity magazines and "assault rifles" if he has his way.

I don't like this any better than any of the rest of you.

But, it would seem to be beneficial to the CMP. They will now be the only entity selling Garands from overseas.

At least the way that I am reading it, but I am not a lawyer.

Glad I bought that Garand and carbine, even if the carbine is a Blue Sky.

Anyone here care to explain the presidential executive order to us not educated on the subject?

What can or cannot be made law by executive order?

I also heard of this new "Executive Order" tonight on the news. It makes me want to stop listening to the news. Everyday there is something to make you sick coming out of "our government".

dont mean to change the topic but i am wondering why these guns are in other countries. were garands and model 1917s issued to other countries armed forces and now they are being sold to us importers? do any garands and springfield 1903s have import marks?
