4513TSW Questions

Great choice

Just to add another pic until you get yours back.

You will love it!

Just got my pistol back from Karl Sokol at Chestnut Mountain Sports and I must say that his work is excellent.

What had to have been a nearly 10 pound trigger pull initially in double action is down to about 7 and quite crisp. Single action is down to about 4.75 and right where I want it.

He also deactivated the magazine safety for me. That's a feature that I don't like or care for on a duty/carry pistol.

And, as promised, a few photos of my 4513TSW.

I don't know if it has ever been shot before I bought it. Definitely carried a little. Not sure if it once had a rail attached which was removed and the holes were covered with the rivets that you can see or if it came from the factory this way.

Overall I'm quite pleased with the entire experience from Karl and would HIGHLY recommend him to anyone looking for work on a 3rd gen or anything else that he works on.

Very nice. I believe you're correct in assuming that it had a rail at one time. It probably went back to the factory &n they installed the rivets to fill the holes. I've got a 4013TSW that's the same way. So, how does it shoot?

Unfortunately I won't get to shoot it again until probably Monday of next week. I'm technically on "vacation" but have had so much to do before I get to go out of town that I might as well have been at work.

Plan is to head to the range on Monday and put about 400 rounds down range. Can't wait to see how the re-worked trigger is while lived fired.

Plus 3 on the work of Karl Sokol at Chestnut Mountain Sports! I used to work on the same PD with Karl in Mass. He customized my wife's 3914 in my avitar photo (similar to an ASP conversion and then hard chromed) and he's worked on several of my other pistols.

Karl always does exceptional work and his prices are quite reasonable for the level of work and pretty quick turnaround times. In addition to being a custom pistolsmith, and a factory trained armorer for S&W and a number of others Karl will also tackle things like competition guns, long guns, custom projects, etc. And, he's an all around great guy that I have known for 20 years. How's that for an endorsement? ;-)

Does anyone know if the recoil spring is the same in the 4513 TSW to the 4516, 4516-1, or 4516-2. I was looking for a 4513 and found a 4516-1 NIB. It had a dual spring, not sure they still make the recoil spring for that model.

Yes, the dual recoil spring set up in the 4513TSW is identical to that used in the 4516-2 and 4516-3. IIRC it is also used in the 4013TSW as well.

They are still available from S&W too. I picked up a half dozen last year. Regards 18DAI

18DAI is the resident expert but from what I recall you can, however you'll have to custom cut them to fit your shorter framed pistol. They are made for the 7 and not 6 round variant.

I picked up my 4513TSW V1 (I think version one is what 18 is going for with the V1 designation) about 18 months ago NIB. I have posted how hard it is to shoot such a beautiful gun and watch it wear, but yesterday I did take 18DAI's advice and shot it some more....

I absolutely love the way my gun shoots. And comparing the effect the rounds had on a water-filled milk jug with my 9mm, I can really see the difference a .45 has when it hits. ;)

I have a hybrid holster for it, but I think it's time to have Lobo make me an IWB to actually carry the gun more....

Yes, I'm going to put wear on a grail gun....

Hello, is there any way I can put a set of Hogue grips on my 6 round 4513?

You'd have to modify the Hogue panels for the 4516/457/current production 4513TSW.

I did it for a couple of guns. Not pretty, since they were just being used for "working off-duty " 4513's, but they worked. Someone who took their time to finish off the cuts and exposed edges could do a much better job. Mine was just one of those quick, late evening "good enough for gov work" efforts. They worked fine for us, so I never got around to doing it over and making them look better.

Oddly enough, after using them for several years I recently decided to remove them, and I like using the gun better without them nowadays. Go figure.

The 3913TSW pre rail that I bought a while back has the same soft of modified grips. I haven't decided if I'm going to put the OEM ones I bought on or not. If I do, I'll probably give them the K&G Boot Guard treatment as mentioned in another thread somewhere in this sub forum.

Like Fastbolt I've used the cut down Hogue rubber grips for some time on my 6-round 4513TSW's. Thanks Big Dog! :)

I did take them off last week and reinstalled a brand new factory OEM grip. Thanks Fastbolt! :)

While the OEM grip does take a little bit away from the 4513's controlability using the Hogue grip, and causes me to loosen up my groups - slightly, it does restore the concealability of the 4513TSW. Regards 18DAI

Took my newly-purchased 4513TSW to the range for the first time a couple of weeks ago. "Skinny" exceeded my expectations. Three full 6-round mags of .45 230 grain ball at 7 yards yielded the results shown here. This one has factory grips as shown, and I won't be changing a thing.:D

Nice shooting! I hope I do half as well when I take my new to me 5903TSW & AR to the range. I'm waiting on some standard Novak's to replace the dead night sights.

funny how each one looks a little different - one-sided decocker, red dot under the decocker, flush mount 6 round mag, my 7 round sticks out, still all are super guns!

My brother told me he thought that mine has Trijicon sights. That possible?

We do have the Trijicons on ours Martya. Technically, they are Novak Low Mount night sights with Trijicon inserts.

I can't thank you enough for putting me onto mine. Great plain clothes 45. Best regards, 18DAI
