I picked up a stock 4566 a few years ago. It functioned fine and took care of an itch I had after having previously picked up an SJPD 3906 and 66 (to clarify, SJPD never issued 4566's -- I just wanted a big S&W 3rd Gen).
Being a 30-yr old gun, it had some issues. Broken trigger play spring, nicks, useless front strap serrations, questionable metal around the mag catch, some aesthetic problems. I elected to correct the issues and make the pistol more bespoke. Enter Mr Weir (BMCM). I contacted Bill, sent sketches and questions, and sent the gun.
What came back was something that harkens back to some old school Swenson/Pachmayr 1980s two-tone combat competition. Workmanship is terrific. All metal flaws were corrected, slide milled and DLC'd to accept Novak competition rear sight, new ISMI recoil spring (with spares included), new mag catch, new trigger play spring, front strap matting, drill and tap for Nills stocks, milled angled edge to the dust cover, edges dehorned, "Smith & Wesson" lettering was removed and re engraved in new location, with Bill generously provided new old stock magazines which I later function tested.
I only scored an 86% on FBI Bullseye qualification with Federal 230gr HST. It's been a while since I shot .45ACP with any seriousness -- I identified my grip as the problem, so I have to work on building that. (My "control" guns are a G19 w/irons and Staccato C2 w/RDS wherein I usually get in the 290-296/300 [96-98%] range.)
Thank you, Bill for a great pistol.
