The wonderful world of J-frames!

I've like J frames myself a long time. I have five now. The most recent one is a 60-9 "No lock". It is chambered for .357 and has the hvy. barrel w/ shroud. Something about the heavier barrel I really liked. I do wish it was a centennial, but the price was right. I wanted to get rid of the carbon trigger and hammer. Already found a nice SS smooth trigger on GB, but I can't seem to find a hammer. I would like to get a bobbed hammer for it. I was told they never made SS hammers for this model. Any suggestions? Thx.
Surprised no suggestions... Well I made the decision last night to send it to ROBAR and NP3 the whole gun, bob the hammer and put an XS "Big Dot" on the front sight. Shipped it yesterday, can hardly wait to get it back.

When you do get it back, be sure to post photos. It should be a real winner!

Nice Gun! I Really would Love to shoot a .357 mag Snubbie. Never did, but I bet they pack a wallop! Got to save and find one that is for sale.

Even though mine is a .357, I'm never going to shoot those through mine.. I've chosen to carry the, .38 spl. Hornady Critical Defense in std. velocity, still over 1000 fps. I feel there will be better control for follow up shots and won't get blinded in low light conditions. That and I have a couple other J frames around the house only chambered for .38.

Speer's 135gr SB Mag is well under full power but still a nice jump up from the plus p version.
It handles quite well in a steel J frame.
The SB Gold Dot seems to get respect people who have used it.

Best,
Rick

Here ya go. Got it back Wed.

And the only one I still own...

e: Went back to the stock rubber grips on the 638. The T grip/wood combo looks sexy as all hell, but for some reason I really shoot it better with the rubber. Oh well

I haven't checked in for awhile. Nice bunch of Js fella's, thanks for sharing.

Waffles

How do you like the clip on your J? How well does it work & does it interfere with reloading & does it stay in place? I have thought about getting one.
Thanks.

I know there's a lot of dislike on the principle of them, but I loved mine. It didn't interfere with anything, and held the revolver in place securely, and most importantly disappeared. All the big chunky leather and some kydex holsters cause too much of a bulge for me.

The counter argument to these is always the lack of a trigger covering, to which I reply I have my belt and pants covering the trigger, and the J frame requires such a deliberate pull I can't imagine anything actually setting the damn thing off by accident.

The only legit problem I have with it is that it clips to your pants, not the belt. If you wear the gun at or close to a belt loop, forget I said anything there won't be an issue. If you wear loose pants and wear it away from a belt loop, it does sag a bit with a steel J.

It's great for making quick trips to the store and I wouldn't hesitate to get another.

Not a J,

But close enough! I like plastic guns and plastic holsters! This is my rig if I'm not carrying a Glock 23 & spare mag. LCR with reload is 1.1lbs, the Glock with reload is 2.5lbs. The laser is also a great asset when shooting from unconventional positions, such as retention.
