My Ruger SR9 was the greatest thing since sliced bread, until I got a 586 no dash and a 15-3.

If just I could find a good grip for my short hands. Have never been able to properly hold an N-frame.

Same problem with motorcycles, my short little legs just don't want to reach the ground. Gave up riding after many, many times of lifting my bike off the ground to get back on it.

Check out Ahrends Retro Grips, they are specifically made to be a smaller circumference. They make a pretty good difference in grip size. You'll like them I think.

This is probably a stupid question to some of the old hands here but I'll go ahead and ask anyway. Please forgive my ignorance and wetness behind the ears but...If you are "off duty". As in "off the clock", "out of uniform" and on your "own time" why in the world would your department have any say as far as what you carry when you are off duty?

With a state issued carry permit, which I keep forgetting to acquire, I can carry what ever I want off duty. If I do not qualify with it then I cannot carry it to court, grand jury, training, off duty side jobs, etc. Also, allegedly, my department can provide legal aid if I'm involved in a legit off duty shooting with a weapon I'm qualified to carry through the PD.

My motivating factor, beyond the awesomeness of the caliber and platform, is to be able to carry the Model 57 whenever I wish. Currently, without a state issued carry permit, the 57 is relegated to sitting in the safe except when taken to the range. That is just too much to ask of a man.

And thank y'all for the compliments. She is a very sweet shooting revolver, and she came through superbly on the range yesterday.

Ok its all starting to come together and make sense now. So with the state issued permit you can carry whatever you want just like any other citizen. Once cleared by the department and qualified you can also use the 57 on duty If you wish. All adding up to a fine 57 on your hip at all times....and who would have it any other way!? That's a fine weapon indeed.

I carried a revolver as a duty weapon and off duty weapon from 73-88.....then we made the transition to auto loaders, and I carried one of those until 2008.....For several years I carried a M-58 or M-29 4" as a duty weapon...and my 4" 65 as my off duty weapon.....retired in 08....recertified for my LEOSA cred's last week....did so with a 9mm hi cap and my M-58 41 mag.....used my old speed loaders and a pancake for leather....was one of the few "old dogs" shooting a revolver....only one shooting a big bore revolver....enjoy your 57, they are great guns....great caliber.

One year I did my LEOSA with a M625 Mountain Gun in .45 ACP.

I owned a Taurus Tracker in 41 mag...Great cartridge.....I feel its the "Best" manageable revolver SD cartridge....I carry 357Mag. now....but if Ruger would come out with a GP100 in 41mag...I'd be on the waiting list...(or in 10mm)

Or alternatively any of the custom grip makers that make grips from tracings of your hand. My choice is Keith Brown, but at Keith's prices and over a year wait, they are certainly not for everyone.

And back on topic, that is an exceptional rig. Nothing but class. I'd sure be proud to carry that gun in that leather myself!
