My first trade, would you do it?

Hi , I have the opportunity to Trade my Only Ar-15 A palmetto state armory , forgerd, with magpul furniture, a larue mount with a harris bipod, a redfield scope , a mbus flip up rear sight, 100 rounds , 2 mags and a midway carrying case. For a 500 mag with reloading dies brass and bullets and like 40 rounds of ammo. I only shot the ar once and love it but don't shoot much. Is this a good trade guys? here are pics of items

Yep. IMO anyway. The .500 mag is a great pistol, lots of fun to shoot but a tad expensive on ammo. Its really up to your preference. The .500 can range in prices between $900-$1,500 depending on the condition and model and hardware. Therefore if the price is right and you wan it. I say go for it.

I own both an ar-15 and a .500 both are great guns do what is right for you. The .500 imo will hold value better then the ar, there are far more ar-15's on the market then .500's. If your recoil sensitive keep the ar. I have the 8 3/8 model .500 and recoil is no issue for me but it seems a fair amount of people get rid of the .500 over recoil.
I would keep the ar.

Only if you really know you want a .500. Seems a lot of people buy them without realizing what they're like to fire, and then when the recoil and cost of ammo hits them, they go up for [re]sale. Kind of like .50AE desert eagles.

Agreed. Take some time to think it over, it is expensive to shoot and has little practical use, target shooting and hunting. If your only use is targets then keep the ar as ammo is far cheaper, ammo for the .500 will cost around $50.00 per twenty rounds. The .500 is great but more a novelty to most folks and the novelty will wear out fast.

Be sure you shoot a 500 before trading then if you like it better than your AR then go for it.

The 500 is an impractical gun with little value as an SD gun beyond the front door of your house. It's also expensive to shoot, unless you reload. The AR is a gun everyone should own at least one of. As you only have one AR, trading it is a mistake IMO. If you had 3-4 AR's, it would be a different story.

no, they way things are going, dependent on your state, the Modern Sporting Rifle could be a dinosaur and you may not be able to get another in your area w/o paying through the nose. prices are dropping see CDNN for some nice excellent condition Colts.
i have 5 AR's, 3 for hunting 1 for HD and 1 for S&G's. the .500 is really not practical except for the WOW factor at your range.

It's a cool gun, but recoil, noise, price of ammo, the amount you are going to use it (if only a month before deer/elk, then your hunt, they you put away) IMHO it is not really worth it.

would i take one if someone gave it to me...yes...but i would not buy or trade one just due to the above.

you have a nice AR with some pricey parts, LaRue mounts are the bomb and carry my Schmidt and Bender scopes perfectly.

i would keep the AR and get the .500 out of your head. no practical use except for hunting IMO.

The 500 will become a safe queen...maybe 10 shots at the range and your ready to go home....yes the AR wont hold its value as the 500 would, but who cares, after a 1000 rounds with the AR your looking for another 1000 to shoot... fun gun all day long....and its something you can change the looks of to please

Seems right now, you could trade and possibly sell the S&W 500 later and build another AR-15. AR prices are really low now and it seems supply is overstocked.

Almost NIB SW 500. Only shot a couple of cylinders. Comes with everything and 40 rounds of ammo.

If you absolutely love shooting a titanic handgun, and/or love the Big Boys in general, then by all means.

If it were me, I'd keep the AR. But then I am not a fan of massive handguns. The Model 29 is my limit.

I've only got pistols but I would keep the AR. As everyone pointed out, impractical and expensive to shoot.

It sounds like you plan on loading your own. A friend of mine owned the model with the longer barrel, and loaded ammo from mild to wild. If I had to rely on factory ammo only, I'd never even consider one. I'm not a fan of "tactical", in fact I think some border on pure ridiculousness, so I'd trade.
