22 Caliber Wish List

I bought mine already, a few months back. It is a NIB Old Stock (unfired) 17-6 4" from 1989 without the underlug (not many made). Still haven't shot it...won't buy ridiculous ammo. Here is a photo:

It is a good companion for my 17-4 8 3/8".

Since I posted this I have been on the web searching/dreaming for Model 17s, Model 43s, Model 63s, and Model 617s. Many choices and I love all the posts.

In that case, here is more eye-candy. My wife bought this for me as a birthday present earlier this year. A 17-4 shipped in 1978. It appears very little shooting was done with it.

I'm a firm believer in, "you can never have enough .22s." I would still like to add a few more plinkers:

Colt Officers .22
Ruger Single Six Bisley Hunter with LR/WMR cylinders
Ruger Single Six Bisley Vaquero (I've only ever seen one)
S&W Model 17
S&W 317 3"
any Ruger DA .22

I guess my first choice would be my no dash 617 no dash 4 inch followed by my Model 18-3 4 inch followed by my Model 17-4 with 8 3/8 barrel that shoots like a rifle.

NIB Colt Officer Model Target .22 cal 6"

Let's make engraved by one the master engravers from Colt. :)

I love my S&W K frame guns, but one worth mentioning is the Colt Diamondback. I recently picked this one up for a very reasonable price:

I had heard that the conversion cylinder guns like the Rugers have the rifling bored for the larger 22 magnum. So, if you shoot 22 RF; accuracy may not be as good as a dedicated barrel?????

It used to be so, not sure now. I had an early SS Ruger SS after they came out. You have to adjust the sights when changing the cylinder. I did not use the 22 MAg after trying it. It had a long BBL and I ended up trading it in on a short bull BBL Ruger 22.

If I wanted a Ruger Single Six now I would own 2, one sighted in for each caliber.

Model 34 and 63. Am not too picky about version numbers, etc., but I'd prefer nickel and stainless, respectively.

My favorites include all the ones mentioned above but my top pics:
Pre war OD variations and the pre war K22/40 Masterpiece
4" 6 shot full underlug 617 and 17-6
4" .22lr Colt Diamondback and Trooper III
4" 17-5 & 17-6 Heavy Barrel (non underlug)
4" 18 and pre 18
J-22 snub 34 , 43, 63 and pre IL 317
Early 3 screw Ruger single six with old style sites
Early Taurus Model 94 6 shot

I used to own a 5" Ruger Single Six combo that had "Made in the 200th year of American liberty" rollmarked on the barrel. The bore of a .22WMR is slightly larger than that of a .22LR and my gun was not very accurate with .22LR ammo.

I bought the gun new and never liked it as well as a double-action revolver.

+1 for the 4" 617, but I am looking forward to getting my Cobra Arms Standard Derringer! Haha and I love my Sig 522 pistol.

Best .22

My favorite is my 1952 K22 4 inch Combat Masterpiece.always in range bag
Colt Trooper MkIII .22 Mag with extra .22LR cylinder (only 500 sets made)
Colt Trooper MkIII .22LR
Model 48 4 inch with factory .22LR cylinder
K22 1952 and 1955
Colt Diamondbacks in 4 and 6 inch
Colt OMT .22
Colt OMM .22
M17 8 3/8inch bbl (shoots like a rifle)
M63 4 inch bbl
M617 4 inch
M617 6 inch
It seems the hardest one to find is a Model 18. Shooters just keep them.

Saw one for sale on GB a few weeks back...no one bid on it as the starting bid was required to be $775.

Hi folks, looked what I picked up; S&W, model 43.

Colt Trooper

I so badly want a 10 shot 617, but I just cant justify picking one up while I have this early Colt Trooper in the safe. I'd feel like I was being unfaithful if I left this at home while I went out shooting with a different 22lr. This thing's a hand-fitted beauty that's a true pleasure to shoot.

Got its twin in 357 from 1968.
