Question about M&P Shield

I shot my brand new Shield .40 for the first time today, now I can't stop grinning. I can't compare it to a 9mm shield cause I've never shot one, but compared to a 642 with +p loads it's an absolute pussycat. Accurate too.

I agree...my Shield9 has about 900 rds thru it..and no failures...guess it time to trade for the .40 cal...that's only if you believe every thing you read!

So you are calling me and numerous others on this site liars?:rolleyes:

Get the 40 and for around $80 buy a stock 9mm barrel. Then you have two calibers in one gun. This barrel swap works for all M&P's: Shield; Compact; and Full Size. Please don't ask if it works, as there has many threads showing that it works great. I have the Shield 40, and carry it as a 40, but often practice and plink using the 9mm barrel. Sure the 40 does have a bit more recoil and snap, but it should, as the 40 is a more powerful caliber, and as such has a better chance of a one shot stopping power. Since I have both barrels I can state that there is a difference in felt recoil, but not much of a difference, and definitely not being anywhere near uncontrollable recoil. Maybe an extra 1/2 second longer to get back on target, than the 9mm.

You can go 9mm to 40, but that swap is not just a barrel swap, as the 40 barrel would need a little modification to the tang width, for it to fit into the 9mm slide, while the 9mm barrel just drops into the 40 slide.

Bob

What he said!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Funny thing about all of this. My ole lady shoots hers better as a .40 than she shoots it as a 9mm. Dunno what it is about it but she's crazy accurate with the .40.

I just bought a brand new 9 ands it started FTEs at about 400 rounds. My other Shield 9 has been back 3 times for FTEs still isn't right. I don't even want a replacement because I know it will do the same thing.
There is an issue with the newer 9s that needs to be adressed, but S&W is turning a blind eye to it.
My .40s work flawlessly, so I will stick with them.
BTW I was using Winchester Ranger ammo in my 9 and it had a phase 3 malfunction after the first round. I would not use the 9 shield for any form of self defense... At least not the newer ones.
Which Shields are considered "newer ones"? Those made in 2013? Specific months in 2013? What three letters does your serial# begin with? Just want to know what to avoid. I believe you and just want to learn more specifics.

I bought my Shield .40 last week. The fired case that came with it is dated 10/18/13. The serial # starts with HRJ.

Thanks. Congrats. But it's the newer model 9mm model Shields that are having FTE problems. (apparently)
Anybody else?

Where are you guys coming up with these issues.... I see the same few guys stinking up every Shield thread with their issue..... because a few guys have an issue is no reason to turn one of the best CC guns on the market into a lemon. This is like Obama telling the masses they can keep their plans if you like it... say it enough and people begin to believe you. Not denying a few problems, but to continually bust into every Shield thread and cry your story like it effects everyone is just plain wrong.... and that's my opinion..

I had a shield 9 with a born on date in June of 2013....almost 600 rounds with NO problems what so ever

I can certainly understand the frustration by those who's Shields appear to defy repairs. I was not aware of these issues when I started this thread. That said, I am glad I decided to go with the M&P 40C.

+1 9mm 6/21/13 test fire and no real reliability issues including recall issue. I've probably shot 400+ out of mine in various 115, 124 and 147g. Only real complaints I had to start were related to being new i.e hard to rack, hard to load mags to capacity and tight safety. All that has worked itself out nicely. My only complaint is with the 8rd mags and that tailpiece that comes loose and slides up mag making it impossible to seat the mag. Doesn't matter though because I only carry 7rd mags which I like better for concealment. 8rd and that tail sticks out to far.

Sucks to get a defect but it happens. Just happened to me on my new versa max. That's unfortunately just life sometimes. What matters when it does happen is how well and how fast the manufacturer deals with the issue.

The linked thread reveals SEVERAL Shield owners with the same FTE problems. All involving mid 2013 models with serial#'s like HBHxxx , HBNxxx , etc...

Google Shield FTE and you will see I not the only "one" I Also referenced many others in my original thread. I see you like to write in all CAPS.. Does that mean you are angry? Or just can't face reality?

You see what some people seem to miss. Is the fact that there are many more Shields out there that have NO problems at all. Obviously they dont realize this, because whos going to complain about a weapon that works flawless.

I think those of us who have Shields that have zero problems. Should each start a different thread about how great these little things are. Maybe then the mis informed people will then become well informed.

It seems like the flawless Shields were produced in 2012. Serial#'s like DXTxxx, DXExxx, etc... I'm fortunate enough to have one. I'd love to boast about my perfect Shield on that hypothetical thread.
Problem is, I'm considering getting a second Shield, as I love it so much, but I'm afraid to now knowing I might buy one with FTE issues.

Not angry at all, just highlighting points I believe a few have missed... you seem to be the one that's angry.. :)
