Concept of self defense under attack

I don't know what to think about the students in university housing having a gun against University policy. To me, this is similar to employees being forbidden to carry guns at work. I may not agree that it is a good policy, but it is the policy. Regarding the man in Texas who fired into the ground, IMHO the police are completely wrong. Under the laws here in NC had he taken refuge in his home and waited till they attempted to break in he would have been within his rights to kill them.

You cannot get into a fight with another person and claim self defense. If your carrying you need to be the most polite person on the planet.

SELF DEFENSE

The natural/ primal instinct for survival at any cost would trump any written law if it came down to it. If you should happen to survive, deal with it then. If you pause to think about what if's in a life and death situation, they can arrest your corpse later. RULE #1 SURVIVE, all other rules refer to rule #1.

Talk to folks from the UK who have been essentially brainwashed into thinking that they should just suffer the attack, then call authorities rather than using deadly force to protect themselves or their families....

In regards to the students: their apartment was OFF CAMPUS - not a college dorm or on-campus housing. While the structure may have been owned by the University as a corporate entity, they were not "on campus" and their relationship while off campus with the University is/was that of tenant/landlord.

Can a landlord effectively limit a tenant's constitutional rights? As they are off campus, does campus security -as agents of the landlord (not as "campus" security)- have the right to take tenant property? If the University owns a coffee shop off campus, will their student handbook apply to all shoppers or allow campus security to take the lawful property of any customer? If they own an off-campus parking garage, can campus security take any lawful property from any parked vehicles? Do any non-students reside in the apartment complex, and if so, are they also bound by the student handbook, and if not, how are two tenants in the same complex not afforded equal rights? Does the lease for non-students also reference surrendering rights as conditions of tenancy? Are their laws in WA that limit a landlord's ability to condition tenancy on the waiving of Constitutional rights?

Universities and colleges are also corporate entities with holdings and properties beyond the boundaries of their campus. They often have interests and financial stakes that stretch far beyond their educational operations. Does their student handbook apply to all persons in any way connected or related to the university's corporate interests, holding, and properties no matter how far removed from the campus?

They more than likely signed something that said they agree not to have firearms in their building. A landlord has every right to say " you cant have X Y or Z here " and give you the outs if you break the rules. Everyone who rents deals with that ****.. as for being kicked out of school.... now thats just stupid.

That depends upon the State as to whether the landlord has that right. College campuses have more authority regarding the property under their control than other landlords. If I were
applying for housing with a private landlord and was denied
based upon having a gun, I both publicize it and file suit against the landlord. You have the same castle doctrine rights in my state and nobody can deny constitutional rights, just because someone rents property from them. I would guess though in some locations like Illinois you might have no rights at all to shoot an intruder, since having the gun itself might
violate local law. I refuse to live in such places, and additionally I boycott those states.

The Modern American Liberal mindset is that every incident results in another "victim of gun violence", whether the cause was premeditated murder or legitimate self-defense. No distinction is drawn between perpetrator, crime victim, bystander, etc; all are considered to be the same.

Following the Newtown school shooting the gun control crowd held a public rally during which they read off the names of "victims of gun violence", including the Tsarnaev brothers who (allegedly) committed the Boston Marathon bombing and then engaged in a gun battle with police trying to evade capture.

The Modern American Liberal (MAL) who doesn't like trans-fats is not content to avoid them personally, he insists on banning them for everyone.

The MAL who doesn't think large sugary drinks are good for people wants to ban them for everyone.

The MAL who doesn't like firearms demands that they be unlawful for anyone to have.

Modern American Liberalism exists as a belief system in which the MAL is naturally superior, morally and intellectually, to the common man. That belief leads the MAL to assume the responsibility for controlling everyone else (for their own good, of course). This would all be nothing more than mildly annoying to most of us, except that the MAL's are achieving their misguided goals via legislation and regulation, thus imposing their belief system on the rest of us.

These folks really are MAL-adjusted. Their sense of importance and supriority, while demonstrative of little more than arrogance to normal people, is fueled by every imperfection in society and the human condition. There will never be enough control over anything and everything to satisfy their egotistical, self-righteous minds.

Ive said for years now that "liberalism is not just a disposition, but a disease." Sorry if that will offend someone but, thats how I feel after numerous run-ins with the blind-minded.

"[Insert political orientation here]-ism" has NOTHING to do with this. Control freaks who want to erode our civil rights come in all flavors.

Leave politics out of this conversation, please. I'd hate to see another thread locked because we couldn't follow the rules.

Modern American Liberalism has nothing to do with politics. MAL is a belief system, comparable in many ways to religious orders or cults of many persuasions, although usually secular in nature.

My comments were offered solely to assist forum members in understanding the mentality of those we are dealing with in situations such as the OP raised.

Best regards.

We are done here..

I'm pretty sure most of us know that. ;)

This thread is an example of a topic that really doesn't fit within the scope of the 2A Forum.
The mindset and philosophy of one group or another is NOT within the scope of this forum and can only lead into discussion of politics.

Almost a year ago, we provided instructions on the scope of the 2A forum.
See this at the very top of the forum-
Sticky: READ this > HOW to use the 2A Forum

If you bother to READ that, you will see:

Note the subtitle of this forum is "2nd Amendment Issues & Discussion".

Ideally, we should see nothing here that does not pertain directly to protection of or expansion of 2nd Amendment RIGHTS.
That means this forum is about LEGISLATION and responses from legislators or the actions of legislators or about carry permit laws and issues.

/\ Read that AGAIN /\

Ask yourself if your thread fits one of those topics!
We are having to move too many threads.

LINKS:
Don't
post a bare link and say "You gotta see this!".
Tell me WHY I gotta see this with a paragraph or two.
That is the start of a discussion.
Posting a bare link is merely creating an internet index.
Any link posted should pertain directly
to protection of or expansion of 2nd Amendment RIGHTS.
If your link gets deleted, you either failed to describe its value, or it does not meet our standards.

This is NOT:

This is not where you post general political discussion and comments on OTHER issues not related to the 2A. Other issues are the economy, Obamacare, libs in general, tinfoil and black choppers, how to start a revolution, etc, etc. Keep it focused on the 2A issues.

This is not for the latest news about some scumbag shooting someone or getting arrested with a gun.

This is not where you post your latest AR or AK.

This is not for discussing gun and ammo prices or availability.

This is not where you post which movie stars or talking heads are currently bashing the 2nd Amendment.

This is not where you moan about liberalism or the changes in our culture.

This is not for the latest news on a gunowner using a gun lawfully for self dense, unless it is simply an OUTSTANDING situation that we can use in the halls of Congress.

This is not where you will fix everything wrong with our society.

What we SHOULD do here:
ALERT people to upcoming restrictive legislation at ANY level of government, and discuss and promote methods to fight it.

ALERT
people to upcoming legislation (if any) that is supportive of gun rights, ownership, and usage or carry.

INFORM
people on methods of being proactive in the fight, including encouragement to join the NRA or donate to it.

INFORM people on methods of fighting abuse of our rights. An example is the thread running about a newspaper publishing names and addresses of permit holders in New York. While that is legal, we all know it is meant to cause distress to those permit holders.

INFORM people on which legislators are pro gun and anti gun.

Post real and accurate data that would be useful in the fight.

In the coming months, we will have plenty to talk about that is spot-on for this forum. Let's keep the clutter down, and stay focused on the object.

I'll also remind you to heed the rules for this board. You can find them at the top of this forum.
Especially note these two-
5. Do NOT even think about implying, wishing, or stating ANY kind of harm or misfortune should befall ANY elected government official.
If you want to talk to the Secret Service, just call them up and leave me out of the middle.

6. Derogatory, Flippant, or Crude names for any government official will NOT be tolerated.
Respect the OFFICE, if not the holder.

That means the President of the United States will be referred to as the President, or by the accepted usage of his last name or initials- 'Obama' or 'BHO'. Other government officials will be afforded the same courtesy.

Read the above and ask yourself if your topic fits the purpose of this forum!
