Any police forces using the S&W M&P's? Any LEO's here with comments on the pistol and what they have seen?

S & W M & P 9 MM C

I carried one, that was personally owned for the last couple of years before I retired. It is a good gun and not too large. Easy to qualify with. I liked the external safety. Prior to that I used a Glock 33, also with an external safety that I had installed, and an issued Sig 9 MM that I returned after about 3 months. That gun ate up my jacket linings. Too large for plain clothes use. I will say that it put all the bullets in the same hole. I currently carry a Shield in the winter months and a 380 Bodyguard in the summer. All three have been thoroughly broken in, with at least 700 rounds thru each one.

I know the Chicago PD has authorized the M&P for duty carry.

The Milwaukee PD is on their second issue of M&P40s. I bought one from an MPD officer who bought back his 4 year old first issue gun when he was issued a new one. He likes them a lot as does my LEO son. Even better than the Glock 23 & G21 I gave him when I retired & before we had a concealed carry law. He convinced me to go with the M&P instead of Glocks when I got my CCL. He has every confidence in the Glocks & uses them for off duty weapons but still thinks M&P is a bit superior. I know over a dozen MPD Officers & they all agree that the M&P is better than the Glock 22s they used to carry with the new issue M&Ps even better with the improved trigger.

There are a substantial number of agencies that issue or allow M&Ps. In .40 S&W, it is certainly the platform of choice.

There are several agencies that issue the M&P. Los Angeles Sheriff's Department is in the process of converting over to the M&P in 9mm. The California Department of Wildlife purchased M&P's in .40. I do believe the Salt Lake County Utah Sheriff's Department also issues the M&P in 9mm and .40

NYPD uses them (last I heard). I carry one also. Everyone talked smack until I shown em how it's done on qual day. Now people are asking me where they can get one.

The NYPD still has not authorized the M&P.I wish they would I have a full size M&P 9 it feels so much better in my hand than the Glock 19.

NCHP carries them in .357SIG. But I've heard they may be going to start issuing something else. They seem to switch about every other year it seems like.

Baby brother's 45 man small town NJ department changed to the 45 4" 2 years ago, traded their 4513TSW for them. They all like them a lot. He says other departments are also changing over.

I do not believe NYPD has yet authorized the M&P. There have been rumors for a few years now, but some forum members with connections there have said it has not happened yet.

I am sure that the troopers are stuck with a issued single sidearm policy. Few if any state agencies are progressive enough to overcome the "one size fits none" parade ground mentality when it comes to unformed personnel (I'm not aware of any). At least the M&Ps have different grips and can be adjusted a bit to fit individual hands.

Never have seen a cop carry an M&P. only guys I've seen them with is the ones running a brinks truck.
