Buying Ammo Online...

Usually UPS andFedEx require a signature verification for receipt of ammo. Has someone simply had a shipment of ammo left at his door with no signature required?

Also, the ammo pkg is supposed to have an ORD-M sticker plainly visible on the shipping box. It really can't be hidden from someone who knows.

I have had ammo ship for quite a few years and never had to sign, the guy rings the bell and runs back to his truck. Never had a problem.

Right, so I searched to ask this question here. The context is for standard 9mm pistol ammo.

Have never bought a ammo online, but am tired of paying $17.99/50 for standard target ammo ($0.36 per round).

I am seeing prices now / today on gunbot.com as low as $0.24 per round).

My question is, what do you guys use to determine which online ammo supplier to use?

Are there 'good' companies to use?

How about ones to stay away from?

Is 'reloaded' the same as 'remanufactured'?

I see lots of different countries represented on gunbot.net; are any of these to be avoided?

I don't have my FL CWL yet, is this required in order to order ammo online?

I generally see the price /50 is higher that the price /1,000, but is there any other benefit derived from the lower unit quantity (it seems obvious to me to buy in higher volume).

Thanks in advance, and apologies if these seem like stupid questions.

I can answer 2 of your questions:

1) Midwayusa.com is an excellent source for ammo. They have other products besides ammo. They have really good prices and fast delivery when they have stuff in stock.
2)You do not need to have a Concealed carry permit to order ammo from Midwayusa.com. Just make sure what ever you order from them is legal in your state.

Try sgammo.com - they have some pretty good deals on 9mm and .223. They get ammo in almost daily, and you can now set an alert and get an email when an out of stock item comes in.

They give you the option on check out as to whether or not you want a signature upon delivery.

Yep. No worries. All the rounds I have purchased over the years have always been packed/shipped in cardboard boxes w/o any visible indication of the contents. Short of opening the box up, it is just another heavy UPS delivery.

The ammo I just got had bold 3/4" letters that said "small arms ammunition." Not worried that the Fed Ex guy would mess with it, but given the fact that he just left it on the step, I'd feel better if it didn't have that label.

Sportsman's Guide, Palmetto State Armory, and Sportsman's Outdoor Superstore can all be good if they have what you want. Bought 500 rd of Federal American Eagle from them a couple weeks ago for $149.99 with free shipping. Then Palmetto had it the next day for about $129. All out now of course, but keep checking. You don't need to find too many good buys if you're getting 500 or 1000 rds at a crack. Here's a decent buy that's available now: Fiocchi Shooting Dynamics 9mm 115gr FMJ 50rds 9AP - 9mm Luger - Handgun Ammunition - Ammunition

If we buy everything on line, soon the brick and mortar stores will close...

If we drive cars everywhere, soon horse and buggy transportation will dry up.

Buying online is less expensive, more convenient, safer, less hassle, costs me less gas, can be done at 3am while drunk in my underwear etc. I personally find no particular need to support or encourage a shopping venue (local Brick and Mortar) who, out of necessity, causes all of those parameters to work against me.

Of the 3 brick and morter stores I usually buy at, 2 have a large online presence. (Cabela's and Gander) The 3rd (Walmart) is highly unlikely to be put out of business if I buy all my ammo online.

Exactly Sarge.

Support your local merchant who is 25% higher, why?
So he can stay in business to continue to overcharge you?

I go where the price is low. Period, end of story.

Plus buying online and "non-local" still means I'm supporting a bunch of local USPS, FedEx, UPS etc people. Those trucks, and the big rigs that deliver to the local distribution points, buy fuel and pay road taxes in my state. Their drivers, loaders, administrative people, dispatchers etc all live in my state and are my neighbors. Those that aren't in my state or my neighbors are still humans that I'm helping to keep a job.

I support the more streamlined, more efficient, less expensive sales model.

And of course, I'm fond of that "3am, drunk in my underwear" thing.

That's the other thing. You don't even have to leave home and go search the stuff. No sales tax.
No, I'm not giving an extra bunch of money to locals when I can source it for less elsewhere.

or you can do this!

Thanks for the feedback, I figured I was being overly cautious but just wanted some other opinions. Especially since all the ammo I've ever received has always been identified on the box as such.

You have it shipped to a relative who is home all the time and would mind taking it and holding for you. I do that. I live in a apartment and alone and work flex hours. I have made an agreement for a love one to receive my orders and i pick up the same day. Operational security.....:)

I much prefer ordering online than standing in the winter cold waiting for Academy to open so I can get some ammo but that's what happened to me this year. As it stands now shipping costs make buying at Academy cheaper than ordering from Midway.

Midway is the leading "gouger" when it comes to shipping. Some of the places are reasonable though.

Only time I buy ammo from midway is if I have a reduced shipping coupon or am ordering other items (targets, shirts, cleaning supplies, etc).

I'm the same way about ordering ammo from Midway.
I'll only order cases of ammo because of the shipping charges. I refuse to pay their shipping charges for just one a brick or box of ammo. On a lot of the ammo they are just limiting you to one brick of ammo and the shipping cost equal the cost of the brick of ammo. that sucks.

Ok how do online companies know your of age to buy ammo? Lately stores gander & walmart have asked for my ID

Some of them ask for a photo of your ID. (use a cell phone and save the pic to your computer as a JPEG file, then you can attach it to an email) Not all companies do this but I think more will be doing so. (at least that's what it seems like to me, I get asked for the photo more often lately, but I only had to send it once to each company).

I just got 1000 rounds of 9mm from Gander Mountain and didn't have to prove my age. In fact most of the ammo I've purchased in the last year has been on line. The most I have ever had to do was check a box next to a disclaimer affirming that I am 18 or over.
