Will or have any of these ever come up for sale as police trade-ins? Will we have to wait until the CHP transitions to a different pistol?

Anyone know?

Here is a integrated rail I picked up at a local gun store last year. It was never issued to the CHP and shipped from the factory to my dealer in 2012. This was the first one I have ever seen new or used. Maybe someone here can chime in about what year it was that the CHP started issuing these guns with the integrated rail.

That's awesome looking! Was it a Law Enforcement dealer?

It's not unheard of for a Smith & Wesson LEO production overrun to end up at a dealer. And when you see them there the time to buy is now.

Every time I see an integral rail model 3rd GEN I shake my head and wonder why Smith & Wesson is not selling these to the public. If Sig is able to sell a metal framed railed full-size handgun then Smith & Wesson surely could too.

I would have to have an integral rail 4006 or 4566! I would gladly pay prices similar to what Sig is charging for one.

Add me to the list of those wanting a melonite 4566TSW with the integral rail.

They could easily sell these to the public. But then, who would want to buy their ugly plastic striker fired pistols with the droopy dustcovers and lousy triggers? :)

I'll bet Apex Tactical is glad S&W doesn't still make 3rd gen guns. ;) Regards 18DAI

Put me down for a 3916.

I often wonder what it would take to get S&W to do group buy/special production run for members here. How manys pistols would need to be the minimum?
Of course, it would almost certainly need to be one particular pistol with regards to calber, model, finish, etc. Methinks getting us all to agree on that would be like herding cats.:D

AMEN to that... that's exactly my theory why S&W killed the 3rd Gens, they were too ashamed to admit that the much touted new fangled M&P line was not what it was cracked up to be with sales lagging. S&W was bound and determined, come hell or high water, that the M&P's were going to be a success by hook of crook.

People complain about the trigger pull on the 3rd gens, but I looked at a .45acp M&P on sale at a LGS last weekend and all I can say about the trigger on it is... hand crank coffee grinder.

But by still making 3rd gens available via a special order back door to LE agencies... why would such a fine upstanding company like S&W be selling an inferior product to our thin blue line protectors?:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Yep... if an integral rail 4506-1/4566, or god forbid a 1006/1066 , ever came out, I'd surely break a finger from yanking my wallet out of my rear pant pocket so quickly.

There he goes again! :D

That is a nifty 4006. I didn't know they made such things! I guess I am right there with 18DAI. Give me one of those in a 4566, preferably with Melonite finish - and the best barrel they can put in the thing. :)

Hi M29since14 :)

Wouldn't a Barsto for the melonite 4566TSW be sweet? :)

I must say the standard barrel on my RJF prefix Melonite 4566 is pretty darn good. The only S&W 45 I have that is more inherently accurate, in my hands, is my PC Shorty 45.

IIRC a few other fellows with the Melonite 4566's have commented on how accurate they are. We beleive this batch may have recieved a little extra attention during production.

Maybe member 4506517 will tell us how his Melonite integral rail 4566TSW shoots. Regards 18DAI

You guys and your .45's! Give me my 3916, an all steel version of the 3913. Make one in stainless without a rail, one a Melonite version with an integral rail, both with the other TSW features, and I'd sell an organ if needed to pay for them.

scwv67 Have you tried a 3906 yet? Very close to what you describe wanting.

Slightly larger than a 3913, all stainless steel frame and slide, available 9-round mags making for a 9+1 capacity.

Mine is VERY accurate and 3rd gen bet your life reliable. Give one a try! Regards 18DAI

Your 4006TSW looks to be a factory produced CHP overrun. If you look at the prefix of the serial # it begins with "CHPxxx". I believe the CHP began receiving them and putting them into the field in 2006.

I've considered one, may eventually get one, but am just not a fan of the square trigger guard. Silly, I know. So I'm on the lookout for an early 639 with the round TG.

There's a seller on GB with two of them, but he's VERY proud of them!

A member of the HK forum got HK to do a special buy of HK45c's, but I'm sure it helped that it was variation of a current production pistol.

Still makes me wonder if S&W could be convinced to do it?

The later 3906/3904's came with a round trigger guard as well.

Check out this photo of the grip from my 4006chp which is the same gun that is in the picture from the above post. That indention at the bottom of the grip where the plastic magazine base plate is a feature that I believe is unique to these "chp" guns. Has anybody seen this on another 3rd gen? I like it. It sure helps removing a tight/loaded magazine from the gun.
