I finally took the leap off into the 21st century and gave up my flip phone and got me one of these new I phones.

I looked at the app store and found a weather app, a flashlight app and a tapatalk so I can get on here.

What apps do you have that you like? It looks like their are about a gazillion to look through.

News apps are nice. I have a wide variety.. From Fox to Huff post to CNN and BBC... Get all the angles. At lunch, I sit back and read up on the news.

I don't use tapatalk much. I just use the normal forum website on Safari. I prefer the traditional layout. I do use tapatalk to post pictures from my phone.

The worst app I have is the Amazon app... Worst because I can now order anything, anytime.

Altimeter and pedometer apps are handy.Photo shop express is a free editing app if you play with the camera.Zite is a good one for gathering articles from different sources.Of course, once you start using a lot of apps, you'll develop a craving for an ipad to read them on ;-)

One of the most useful apps I found is called "Around Me". It was free IIRC. I like free.;)

The app uses your location to help you find whatever it is you're looking for.

Example; I was in the big city working. I needed a small piece of sheet metal. I had no idea where the nearest hardware store was. I opened the app and searched for "hardware stores". It brought up a map with name, address, and phone number of an Ace Hardware two blocks over.:D

Others I have include;
Find Iphone (find your phone if it gets lost)

Sky View (Cool app. View the stars, planets, and even satellites and the app tells you what they are)

Calculator App

App to convert units of measurement

Living Earth (Tells you what time it is anywhere in the world)

IHeart Radio (Listen to the radio on your phone)

Merriam Webster Dictionary

Google Translate (Never used it but it might come in handy)

Numerous Games

There's much to choose from out there. I always check the reviews of the apps before I use them.

THE one app that I use the most is Kitchen Timer - Most useful.
My Epson printer is on our WiFi network and I can print from the phone through that network - Point & Print - NO wires necessary -- YES!

Second most used has to be Accuweather.

Not to rain on your parade, but you don't need the flashlight app anymore - Apple finally built one into iOS7.
To access the flashlight just put your finger on the bottom of the screen and drag it upward and a menu should open up - it's a quick access to a bunch of different features - flashlight, music player, WiFi, camera, etc.

The more you tinker with your new iPhone, the more you'll like it (most likely:D).
It'll do all kinds of neat stuff. If you're on a website and you want to call the company, just hit the phone number on the website with your finger and a little bubble will pop up asking if you want to call them - I use that feature quite a bit.
If you get an email from the S&W Forum, just tap on the link and the page opens right up.
If somebody emails you a tracking number to an item they are shipping to you, just tap on the highlighted number and the tracking page will open automatically.

One necessity :
Open Smith-WessonForum.
At bottom center of screen there will this icon:

Hit the icon and this screen comes up:

Select "Add to home screen".

Now you have an icon on your screen that takes you directly to The Forum.

Find My iPhone app is a good one, too.
You can remotely access your iPhone from a PC and make it sound a chime so you can locate it. It also shows you the GPS location of your phone.
In extreme cases, you can erase your phone from the PC if you think you'll never get it back - that helps protect any sensitive info that you may have stored on your phone.

I use pandora, but there are a number of other free music apps that you can program to your particular tastes. My phone is playing away while I post from an ipad.

just be careful of "free" apps. Developers, like me, do nothing for free. These apps will most likely send your contacts list back, location information, serve up adds, monitor net activity, etc. Always check the permissions of "free" apps to see what they want access to. Not all free apps do this type of activity. Some are simply sample apps to try and get you hooked into purchasing the full versions.

Scottrade for trading and monitoring.

I've got a few radio apps for specific stations, but I like Tunein. You can listen to any streaming radio content and it's easy to search by content, set favorite stations and all that. Use it all the time when walking the dog. Pandora for music. Netflix for streaming movies.

Redbox is great for that last minute movie reservation and finding out what kiosks have what movies in your area.

Handy Level for stuff around the house like hanging pictures. Sightlevel is also useful.

I use SpeedMeter in my Camry because the speedo is broken. It also has speed alerts (starts beeping over a certain speed) which can be useful.

Xfinity (Comcast). Remote control for your high def boxes as well as TV guide.

Emergency Radio police and emergency scanner.

Some of the Apps that are included with the iPhone are great like FaceTime to see the grandkids on the fly. I'm using Find Friends right now. My wife is in Atlanta this weekend and I'll know when she starts heading home ;). I find Maps MUCH better than my Garmins. Particularly the photo satellite imagery when on foot in cities which allows you to actually see the terrain and buildings. While driving I usually just keep the iPhone in my pocket and Siri will talk to me via bluetooth. It's so dang accurate that I can watch movement as I walk around inside the house.

There are tons more... but the most useful tool is Siri. And a lot of folks just don't know or understand how useful it is. Siri will do your typing, answer just about any question you can dream up, send text and email, read text, make your calls, take notes, set reminders, timers, navigate or find anyplace for you, search the Net, do your math, tell you what the ball game score is... it's endless. It's amazing how far voice recognition has advanced in the last few years. If you haven't already done so, read up on Siri a bit and do some playing around... it will bring that iPhone alive.

Oh yeah.. and there's a Midway App too. :D

Not sure if it's available for the iPhone but SoundHound is cool.

If you're listening to the radio and don't know the name of the song, activate SoundHound and it will listen and give you the name, album name, lyrics, shortcut to video on Youtube, and more.

Of course, the S&W Forum app. Various weather apps. An app for online banking, & also a tip calculator. an app called Posted, which provides info on non friendly gun locales, some info apps (dictionary,Wikipedia,Ask.com, Superpages). Freight tracking(UPS, USPS, Fedex)so I can track my latest toy! An app that finds ranges. And a game called Bookworm that I'm hopelessly addicted to. I think I need to go through all of them & maybe eliminate a few that I'm not using.

Thanks. Now I don't have to buy my wife that kitchen timer that she put on the grocery list.
I'm on my second iphone. Very handy. Instead of hauling around a camera, calculator & recording device, everything is built into my phone. I use the financial calculator. HP-12C.
BTW. The flashlight is already built into the iphone. No need to get an app for that.

i don't use a separate app for a timer.

Siri - Set timer for 11 minutes

For multiple timers
Siri - Make a reminder for 42 minutes chicken
Siri- Make a reminder for 23 minutes soup
Siri- Make a reminder for 3 minutes egg

As many as I want all running at the same time... all by voice... just press the Siri button and tell her what you want... she'll take care of it.

ER--well, what is a cell phone and do you need a doctors perscrption to get it ? I guess to have to go to an opthamologist to get a perscription for the eye phone.
Blessings

What we could use is an app that has the 4th. edition of the SCSW. With regular updates of course! :D

How many of you would buy that?

I have the Fox Sports app and the Hotel Tonight app. That's it. The Hotel Tonight app is handy if you happen to need a hotel room at a very reasonable rate and at a very short notice.
