Last night was date night so me and the missus decided to splurge and go to PetSmart to get dog food for Angus before we went to eat. I was amazed at the variety of food-some of which cost upwards of $50 a sack and contained only holistic ingredients. I was getting a bit peeved and suggested tongue in cheek that we just go to Walmart and go the "Uncle Roy" route loud enough for everyone around to hear. But the real kicker was at the end of the aisle. They had a selection of Beta's (siamese fighting fish for those of you who are old school) in their individual containers. I was looking at them and then looked down to the fish food and saw........................Beta Water.
Yes. that's right! Bottled water for fish. 31oz for $3.99. Ready to use, yada yada yada on the label. I looked closely for the ingredients and found none save for a notation that it was pure with no heavy metals and low mineral content. Sounded just line my city water (except for the heavy metal thing :D). I was beside myself. I asked the clerk if they actually sold this stuff and she hung her head and said yes. I chuckled and told her she ought to be ashamed of herself. She winked and said yea, but it helps pay my salary.
Capitalism at it's best.

We have found a HEALTHY and inexpensive dry dog food at Tractor Supply. The brand is "4 Health". It is about a dollar a pound. Found it after googleing "dog food reviews". Also another good brand for about same price is "Kirkland" at Costco. For years we fed Pedigree and after reading reviews at several non-connected sites, found out it is basically just filler junk. Our two eight month old Weimaraner pups graze on the 4 Health puppy recipe and are in good shape and not fat.

Oh,,,ours prefer toilet water but we try and keep the lid closed and make them drink from their bowl!

Years back when I had beagles and coon hounds I used to feed them Wayne dog food, it always kept them in top shape, I don't think they make it any more, you could only find it in feed & grain stores.

The dog gets fresh food and water every morning and eats the food but doesn't drink. I take him out and he drinks from puddles instead. I must try a spoonful of dirt in his bowl, I'm sure he would ask for it if he could.

Caj,

I just looked at DogFoodAdvisor site, they rate, announce recalls, etc.

They rate up to 5 Star rating.

You should make sure ANGUS gets good stuff, a bunch of PUFFERY in dog food advertising ya know.

PUFFERY being a legal term, I just like how it sounds.:p
