Mystery Gun- What is it?

We will hear more someday, but not before some mysteries are solved. It seems it is everything we want it to be, but where it travelled after leaving Springfield is still being established...

Sorry. No update to speak of. Everything has stalled. Wish I could say more.

It's definitely a Smith & Wesson though.

Definitely S & W was my bet from the get go.

But, as for the 'why' make a SA Prototype on a large Frame or any Frame, in the time period it was apparently made ( which by the details, would seem to suggest early to maybe mid 1890s), to me is a real mystery!

Still on the Edge of my Seat for hearing what-all has been figured out about it, by whom-ever it is, it had been examined by, in this mean-time..!

It's definitely a Model 38 Hand Ejector, made from 1898 to 1902. It fires the old .38 "short" cartridge.

Hours! I just found and read and read and read...this thread for HOURS!!!

And now?!?!?????
What do I do now? I hafta go to work, fellas...I must sleep; I don't know if I can even function now.

Talk about your cliffhangers!

"...since things stalled ..."

I really have to wonder what the reason for the stalled situation could be. It's not like it's an NSA surveillance project, just a simple historical inquiry.

True, but everyone involved, and likely anyone they would have told about this (assuming they even thought it mattered or ever would), is long dead, and the odds are that the records from that time period (same issue) are long gone, too.

A year later, and nothing????????
