I Quit Facebook

I must confess... I do use Facebook. Originally I got an account as it was the only way to stay in touch with my then-tween nieces, who were coping with some serious family issues.

My involvement with the local car scene makes it more or less a necessity; most events are primarily organized there anymore. And it has turned out to be useful for finding people I've lost touch with over time.

Facebook's policy change seems to me more like just a way to keep themselves from getting legally embroiled for facilitation of criminal acts, a'la Craigslist. They're not, from what I read, even blocking posts - - just inserting cautions.

I don't really see a problem because frankly, this marvelous S&W forum has much more restrictive policies on posts; it's a private forum & the owner dictates the rules, as their right.

So too is Facebook.

I do, however, flatly refuse to get a Twitter account, as I've no interest in being a 'twit'.

I thought I was the only person without a Facebook account!!

It warms my heart to see others here that never signed on.... :p

It just never made sense to me.....

.

I found out it's a great way to keep in touch with our kids that are thousands of miles away. I stay in contact with them and learn more about what's going on in their lives than I ever could from Emails and phone calls.
You can "friend" only the people you want and refuse the rest, it's not complicated.
I could care less what suck-up-burg feels about gun control, my deleting my account won't affect one billionth of FB to him.

Interesting...I'm a fan of the Barratt Firearms page - wonder how they'll see any anti-gun sentiment on the site?

To the OP:

Were you able to delete/remove/etc., your account on Facebook or - did you just stop using it???

I have been trying for years to find a way to DELETE my account.

It's easy.
Go to your Timeline page.
Click on the little "gear looking" thing at the top right corner.
Click Settings.
Click Security.
Click Deactivate your account.

It's the Internets fault we must stop using the Internet now.

Really, do men use Facebook?

But, isnt that what phones are for? :D

I have a fiberglass pole eleven feet four and a quarter inches long for things like Facebook I wouldn't touch with a ten-footer.

No interest whatever, don't need it, and don't trust it worth a damn. Call me or e-mail me, or PM me here on my only forum. If you must (and I accept this from my sister and my kids), text me, but don't expect a text message in return. If a reply is needed I'll call you or e-mail you.

These views apply as well to Twitter and all other current "social media platforms".

I'm sometimes accused of being a Luddite. That's not entirely true, but do you want to ask me if I care? :D

Don't have it and never will. My business is my business. Causes alot of problems IMO.

Yes, but I found children will tell you more and update you more about what is going on in their lives on FB that they never seem to want to tell you on the phone or Email. I get daily updates of what's going on in their lives. Plus they put up lots of pictures of my grand and great grandkids for me to see. Can't receive that on my old flip-phone or landline. :D
BTW, we have 9 kids that all live over a thousand miles from us. Never thought I would like FB, but I love it.:)
Would never consider Twitter and such, makes no sense.

Good for you. I did the same a while back. I find it better to spend my online time on places like these forums. At least here we can have meaningful discussions without people ranting and backlashing at each other. I felt like I never learn anything being on Facebook, except that most people are jerks–both online and offline.

I sometime wonder about the wisdom of being on the Internet

at all. Even though it does have it advantages for gaining knowledge, and I admit I have "met" some good folks via this Forum I keep remembering an Old Saying my Mother told me many years ago. She passed on dozens of them from the pipeline of the ages, and the older I get the more truth, and wisdom I see in each of them.

Why they could almost serve as a road map for life.

The one she told me about Facebook and it hadn't even been invented then was, "Fool names and Fools Faces always appear in Public Places".

Facebooks Firearms groups are a great way to find things localy near you that you would never have known about otherwise, i have purchased at least five guns( all legaly) from local residents of Ky,in just the past few years, and all at much better prices than i could have gotten from Gunbroker.
if you choose not to use it, that is fine, but it has turned out to be a good resource for those willing to use it.

Facebook is what it is. Just like this forum, or any other, it's got rules and regulations aimed at its own best interests. Such is the free market world. If they think they are going to have expensive litigation and bad press because of some folks buying guns used in crimes, then they are going to take steps to insulate themselves from that. Just like most companies would if faced with bad press and litigation over just about anything.

I use FB to keep tabs on people that I don't see very often and get some updates from companies/businesses that I'm interested in. If I don't check it for a couple weeks, the sky doesn't fall. It's just a website. Use it if it is useful for you, don't use it if it's not. That's the glory of the internet, there's something out there for everyone. No reason to get worked up over one site or another.
