I have an m&p40 and quite often, the gun will jam up when cocking it back. The bullets don't go high enough to feed through. I've tried different magazines and they'll all do it. Now, I've never once had any issue out of all the times when I shoot it. It's just the first bullet getting chambered that does it. Pulling the slide back super fast and pushing it forward helps. But shouldn't it be easy to chamber a round? I have most of the apex tactical parts installed by the way. Is there another part I could get to make sure it never fails?

It sounds like you are riding the slide ?? The best way is to pull it back and turn it loose like a slingshot.

That's when it jams up. Pushing it forward actually helps. I know I should be able to just snap it back and let it go
Could it need oil or something? It's been sitting without being touched since November

Yes, they need to be cleaned and lubricated occasionally. Did you clean it back in November? If so, what (if any) lube did you use? There are a bunch of scenarios that I can think of (spiders made a nest in there?) but I'd suggest cleaning and lubing it per the owners manual and then try it again. Sure sounds like the slide doesn't want to freely move forward.

I haven't cleaned it period since I got it in November in 2012

if you read the manual it suggests cleaning it before firing it the first time and then it is up to you how often you clean and lube it...I clean mine after every use as I don't want your situation at that moment when I need my CC the most...life is a learning thing as we go through it...clean it...lube it and enjoy it....:D

I'll try cleaning a lubing it to see if that helps

Yea it started happening after I installed the apex parts. They needed to be oiled I bet

As others have said...it should have been cleaned and oiled before shooting. :o Mine was full of oil and lube when I broke it down. So a good cleaning would be in order and only oil the points listed in the manual. Your problem may not be the lack of oil, but too much.

I just wasn't sure if oiling it affected the loading mechanism. But yea, Idk why I haven't done it yet. I guess since I've only put about 200 rounds through it

So I guess I'm curious. This thread (to the post before mine) begins and ends with a post from you 12 hours apart about this issue but still no indication if you've actually cleaned the weapon and resolved the problem. I can only speak for myself but I'd be really anxious to know if it were mine :) Closure man, some of us need closure :p

Haha I went out last night and went to bed. And I don't think I have any oil left in the house or not. I'm pretty sure it got used up on antique rifles from my grandpa

Yep...I'm all out of all cleaning and oiling supplies. What do you guys recommend for both? I doubt the gun is really dirty, but i'm sure it's in desperate need of oil after sitting so long (I had to sell it to pay bills, but then bought it back just recently)

CLP, frog lube, M-Pro7. They all work well. CLP and M-Pro7 can be found at wally world. Frog lube at your local GS or online.

There was a thread a few weeks back about what people use to clean their guns. The most commonly used cleaner was Hoppes #9 and Rem oil to lube. Frog Lube was also mentioned quite a bit as well as CLP.

I went with CLP and it worked perfectly. Feels like a new gun the slide is so smooth and nice. I feel like an idiot for not doing this before
