Thinking about narrowing my calibers down. I have 357, 38spl, 9mm and 40s&w. Thinking about trading off the only 40 I have (23glock) and ammo. I reload the others and not the 40. Will most likely pick up another 9mm. Perhaps a 938 sig or other CCW.

I agree, since I'm assuming the .38 is also the .357 then you should shed the .40. I love .38 so much!!! I am going to center my collection around that and probably 9mm as well.

Yes I narrowed down my calibers years ago. Now I am down to the following.

'.22lr', .22mag, '9mm', '.45acp', .'38/.357', .45Lc, .410, 16 and '12' gauge. '30/30', 30 .06, .303

Life is much simpler now......it is not as bad as it seems. The ones in quotes are the ones I am serious about the others are for guns that are sentimental that don't get shot much.

I see no reason to have both .9mm and .40cal, pick one and stick to it. The same for .357 and .44. Ed

Not me, variety is the spice of life. If I can't find one caliber on the shelf, I can usually find another.
I see it as I do the guns they shoot from. I like most all types, revolvers, semi's, bolts, levers, etc.
I love options, what can I say?

Is a 10mm barrel for the G23 feasible? Most 10mm guys tell me it's a great reloader's round.

Or swap the 10mm Kurz for .45ACP and a set of dies.

I only own one 9mm and no 10mm Kurz. 90% of my shooting is .22, .45 & .357.

When it comes to semi auto pistols I can't imagine not having a .45. For revolvers My favorite is a .44spl. The 9s and 40s are alright but for me those two I mentioned are more into my comfort zone.

I'll be the one to say it........why no love for the .40S&W? I have a M&P40 that I absolutely enjoy shooting. I also love shooting my Colt 1911 in the 38 super auto.

I have many different calibers in my collection and like 'Jessie' stated, if one caliber isn't on the shelf I can usually find another and thus I shoot that one.

I read about guys thinning the heard down to a couple calibers, I guess I still enjoy too many different guns and thus I won't be thinning down. So to the OP, if you feel you must thin it down and want to get rid of the 40 then go for it.

I went the other way, I increased the number of calibers I owned. In a real SHTF situation I wanted more diversity in my guns so finding ammo would be easier if things got that bad..

I also now have 3 rifle/ pistol combinations that use the same ammo. .44 Mag, .45C and .22LR.

I can't shed any calibers I wish I could. But I like you could shed some doubles or tripples etc. to only buy more s&w revolvers. This is my last Harrah buy guns. Just a few more on my bucket list. Then it's shoot the snots out of them. I can play and fondle handguns while in bed. If I ever become bed ridden. I enjoy the quality and workmanship besides shooting them too.

I like variety, the more the merrier. I have noticed that all my centerfire rifles are in historically military calibers. I have no rifle chambered for a strictly sporting cartridge. I should try to remedy this.

Wanting a cc gun

Wanting a cc gun narrows it down. What would you not mind carrying around with you?? If you go revolver how about 'j' frame? If semi auto I'd get a Shield 9 or M&P 9c. The Sig sounds nice but I like to stick to my favorite brand.

PS I can't really relate to 'having too many calibers' because I've never been able to afford it.

My two favorite non- military calibers are .270 and 30-30. I like the .243 a lot also but unfortunately, don't own one, yet.

I just inventoried my reloading calibers yesterday. I'm at 133 including shotguns, and trying for 3 more. I am slightly disappointed you don't have any 45's. But enjoy your herd! Ivan
