Which 3 would you choose?

Your Glocks would violate the capacity law.;)

There is not a law against owning or using a high cap magazine in California. You just can't buy or sell them in the state anymore.

From the CA DOJ website:
9.Are large-capacity magazines legal?
Generally, it is illegal to buy, manufacture, import, keep for sale, expose for sale, give or lend any large-capacity magazine (able to accept more than 10 rounds) in California. However, continued possession of large-capacity magazines that you owned in California prior to January 1, 2000, is legal provided you are not otherwise prohibited. A person prohibited from possessing firearms is also prohibited from owning or possessing any magazines or ammunition.

(Pen. Code, §§16150, subd. (b), 30305, 32310.)

I've owned my hi-cap mags since before the ban.

And there is no law against buying the Glocks here now. They just come with 10 round mags.

Are the three guns you chose, listed by serial number? If you are even allowed to carry two guns at once.

Good luck, I hope the law does change in your favor. Ed

Yes, you can carry ONLY the specific, individual firearms listed on your permit. You can carry all the guns on your permit at once if you want.

The ones I currently carry.

1. S&W m-60 2 1/8" .357 ( most of the time )
2. Kimber 1911 tactical ultra 3" .45 acp. ( the rest of the time )

3. not sure, maybe a S&W 642 , or a Ruger LC9, or LCP ?

It exists, but there are specific rules on eligibility. You'll have to track down the details because I don't know them. I only know that it exists.

If you have any hints of a place to start, I'll be happy to research it. But other than LEO & active military AND pre-ban owned in CA hi-caps, I'm unaware of "eligibility" to legally obtain a hi-cap in CA now.

For the record: I am not a licensed attorney. I do have a CA law degree and a CA degree in Administration of Justice, have lived in CA for the past 35 years, carried a large portion of that time, and worked in law including legal research, for the past 15 years. I've owned and shot handguns for the past 42 years and been interested enough in legal carry most of that time to have done more than a bit of homework on the subject.

1911
1911
1911

...and Kali is the nicest state coupled with the worst politics.

Seriously, though, I'd be fine with a 1911, a J frame, and an N frame revolver.

Nicest state, in a lot of ways yes.

Worst politics?

Idk, Chicago and New York seem pretty bad, probably worse IMO.

If I limit it to what I have, instead of just choose anything under the sun, I go with...

S&W 457. Can't beat a compact 45ACP. It was even on the approved list until recently being allowed to lapse. 4513TSW still is, though.
S&W 908. Need smaller than the 457? Want 9mm instead of 45ACP? Here you go. Also on the approved list until just recently lapsing. 3913 is gone off the approved list now, too.
Model 38. Front pocket carry for warm weather.

Just missing the cut is...

S&W 27-2 in 3.5 inch or S&W 28 in 4 inch. Because sometimes you just want a .357 magnum. Short barrel makes for easier carry if you can deal with the weight.

I would definately travel to cali if they gained reciprocity with the CPL's I already have. would carry the Model 36, or gen 3 glock 26, only 2 guns I own under 10 round capacity :)

M&P 340 S&W .357/38 special if you must.
SIG 938 9mm
1911 Commander length lightweight

I think small, medium, and large makes the most sense if you have them.

But I would pick:
S&W 442
Glock 23

And leave the third spot blank!

So many of you may have heard that California may become "shall issue". This would be a great victory for gun rights for all citizens obviously.

Let's assume hypothetically that if California starts issuing CCW's like free states, it may not be as bad a place to live, and you're thinking about moving there. Maybe you got offered a great job, or your wife wants to move there, or you have family there. Whatever it is, hypothetically you are now moving there.

So currently the "may issue" rules stipulate that you can only have 3 guns on your permit that you can carry. You are also limited to 10 rounds, as that law is not changing anytime soon.

Which guns do you choose?

I'm thinking something small; something medium for most normal days; and something bigger, for use outdoors or worse areas of town.

One Model 36, one Model 13, and one Colt Government Model (1911 A1). All carried in Milt Sparks VersaMax II holsters.

It wouldn't surprise me if Ca tried to implement some modified form of "shall issue" where you must specify the gun(s) on your license/permit and must modify and have good reason to modify for a different gun and caliber.

To address your question, my suggestion for caliber would be 9MM. It is readily available most places and easy to shoot.

S&W M&P Shield 9MM - great gun and quite thin to conceal
Ruger SP101 - I love this wheel gun
Walther PPQ - not the most concealable but seems a great gun

Another crazy thought if you don't mind.

If you chose one of the sig convertable guns like the P250, or the P320. You could list only one serial number and have multiple options, in both size and caliber.

I love my P250 compact, in .45acp. It would be my first choice.

The 340pd, for pocket carry, or backup.

Walther PPS, 9mm. Great little gun, and it would give you options with the multiple magazine sizes. Ed

Another thought crossed my mind. Are they going to use the guns you choose to judge you in anyway? In other words are more conservative choices going to increase you chances of getting the permit at all. Were as mall ninja choices make you less likely to get a permit?

Where I live the chief has the ultimate decision, and can deny you for pretty much any reason. Ed.
