Hello! New Member; SD40 VE Owner!

I've been looking at the stainless guide rods for my SD. Do they really make a difference? I've hear great things but I don't know anyone personally that has one.

It made a difference in mine. I'm ordering the spring kit and trigger from Apex next week as well.

Haven't done it myself but I have seen several who have put in the stainless steel guide rod and they've all said it reduced recoil.

Should I go 20 or 22 pound for the guide rod?

Either one. I got the 20# but plan on buying the 22# as well and shooting them both to see which one I like best. I shot the stock 17# before I installed the 20# for comparison.

When I move to Florida, I can open carry. I would feel 1000000% more comfortable carrying there than here in Massachusetts. I know it's our given right but people here in MA can be very rotten from what I've experienced.

You might want to read up on Fl law, As open carry is allowed while fishing, camping & range. Other than that it's CC ; ) PS Welcome to the forum & great gun..

I actually just printed out the Florida laws for firearms. Also I just ordered the 22lbs guide rod, the lever and traction grip. It should be coming in 3-5 business days.

Shot the SD for the first time yesterday. Only shot 55 rounds, but with no failure to feed nor fire. I guessing cleaned and lubricated it well. This puppy has some kick to it.

Yesterday I shot it using the 17lb stock guide rod. Next tim I will be shooing it with the new 22lb stainless steel rod.
