Have you guys ever stayed in B&Bs? I have stayed in several and I guess I have to conclude I'm just not a B&B type of guy. The main problem I have with B&Bs is the way they serve breakfast. When you go to B&B school they apparently tell you you have to serve whipped cream at breakfast.
A few years ago I was at a real nice B&B just up north of Durango. At breakfast we got the waffle with the whip cream on top.
Another guy in the group sitting down the table across from me got scrambled egg. When I saw that he had scrambled eggs and I had whipped cream I got very envious. Later I asked the lady sitting next to him-
How did Jerry get scrambled eggs? She said the owner hostess lady kept Offering things to Jerry and he kept turning them down.
So in a disgusted manner she said I'm going to bring you scrambled eggs.
So apparently you have to be disagreeable in B&Bs as other places to get your way.
I do like the privacy afforded by the usually remote locations and small number of people at the property as compared to a motel.
If I could just find one without the whip cream.

Yeah me too as I stayed in Garfield's Inn at Point Austin, Michigan and slept the night in President Garfield's supposedly bedroom. All was fine until breakfast when we were asked if we'd seen his ghost as many claimed to have and all we'd seen was whipped cream on waffles also.

Back in 1960 I was living in Wisconsin but got a job in Yosemite. I put a ad in the paper to take a passenger with me to California for $60s. A airman home on leave called me and wanted to go to Travis AB. Never seen him until I picked him up 40 miles out of my way. That first night we were in Nebraska or Kansas. A sign was on the road in front of a farm house advertising rooms for $1.50!
We got a room with two big double beds. The ceiling looked to be about 14 feet high. The small lady stood on a chair to turn on one of those old paddle fans. No AC in those days. She couldnt reach the chain from the chair she was standing on. In those days before I shrunk I was over 6ft 2"s so got on the chair and it broke with my 260 lbs. I fell on my back right on my back and broke it to smithereens!
Of course I offered to pay her something but thank God and her, she declined and put me up in another room. The next day we got about a 100 miles down the road and my partner felt his pocket and said, damn! I left my wallet under the pillow back there! So we had to make the 200 mile detour back and forth again to get his wallet! Sure was hard to make a buck back then!

I stayed at a B&B outside of Quebec City a couple years back. They served Belgium waffles with vanilla ice cream, massive slabs of Canadian bacon, a tray of every pastry known to man, fluffy scrambled eggs, plump juicy strawberries, chilled red wine and by far the best cup of coffee I've ever had for breakfast. Perhaps my most perfect meal ever!:)

My only rant is that it's so far away!!!!:(

No B&B experience here...I hope I can stay at a Holiday Inn Express someday, though.

I'd take the whipped cream if I could get it the night before. I can think of some fun things to do with that (no airmen, though). In the morning, I will take a real breakfast, thank you.

There was a B&B that my wife and I stayed at several times in Penticton when attending the car show there. I enjoyed the people the rooms were great, incredible views.
But who thinks I wanted baked grapefruit before my omelette? That much pucker first thing in the morning? Bleh...
Pass the whipped cream, please:)

I would take a plate of whipped cream and forget the waffle. I always ask the night before and inform them of all my "allergies" so I get what I want for breakfast. Ivan

I dunno I don't mind. I have stayed in Hostels and B&B type places. My main concern is price followed by the neighborhood/area. I'm not going to stay in Compton but I also don't care what food they serve, that I can get on my own. But to be honest I never eat in Hotels either. Their food is nothing more than microwavable stuff along with pre cocked junk. I can live with brushing off some whip cream

Many years ago my wife and I went to a B&B for an evening. This was before home ownership and the knowledge that goes with it. The place had a two person whirlpool tub. I thought it was a great idea to put some bubble bath in the tub, turn on the whirlpool jets and have a relaxing (and romantic) session in the tub. Needless to say, it only took about two minutes for the soap suds to rise about three feet high over the tub and spill out onto the bathroom floor. Took us over an hour to clean up the mess. Still had a nice evening though.

I've never been a b&b fan.
They're usually stuffed with old furniture and "country" tchockies.
It's like staying in someone else's grandmothers house.

The bathroom is usually down the hall. I don't want to have to get dressed every time I have to take a whizz.

And I like to order what I want for breakfast. Preferably while reading a newspaper, not socializing with the person I'm paying for the privilege of staying with.
There are professionals for that.

I'll take a modern hotel or resort over a b&b any day.
And a good concierge can always arrange for the aforementioned professionals.
