I was just wondering if any of you would trade a 4" 19-5 for a 4" 66? I'm liking stainless more and more it seems. Do any of you prefer a 19 over a 66 or vice versa?

For removing from the safe and admiring, and carefully shooting, the beauty of a blued Model 19 would win. But for carrying and shooting, I prefer stainless. So, I guess I like them both! I probably wouldn't trade unless I had two Model 19s, but I'd sure try to buy the Model 66.

I had a 4" 19-3 that I traded for a 2.5" 66-7. The 19 was a shooter in just OK shape while the 66 was in great shape. If a gun is going to be a shooter I agree with NAWILSON.

Depends on the condition of your 19-5 and if the 66 is a -1. I like the stainless guns but really love the blue guns if the bluing isn't damaged.

Well I would like to have both but that is not going to happen. The gun is in decent shape and it does have scratches and some muzzle wear but still a nice gun. It is rare around were I live to see a model 66. Come to think of it, I never seen a model 66 in person.

Not meant to offend ....... but......srv1...how old are you??

I will admit sighting have dropped off for me these past 8-10 years..... but 19s and 66s were......everywhere ( and still are/ but horded and hidden; My 3" 66 is often unseen in the best and worse places) from about 1960 for the 19 and 1980 for the 66.

Found it strange that you'd never even seen a 66 ........ but born in 75.....but by the time you could buy a handgun .....1996....you were more likely to see a Beretta, Sig. or Glock carried by a police officer than any revolver! Gun Shops in the 90s were full of "wonder 9s" but few revolvers.

In 1975 I graduated from college and the best handgun you could buy was a S&W 66 in either 4" or 2 1/2" ......... they sold as fast as they became available. (9mm the best was a Browning HP)

Over the next 20years I sold (to friends) or traded 19s and 66s buying other guns......thinking I could always pick up another 19/66 any time I wanted to ............

In about 2005 I realized the only K-frame .357s I had were a brace of 3" 66s..... so decided I "needed" to get a couple of 4" and 2.5" 19/66s..........it took me the better part of 5-6 years to get/find 4 "nice", P&Red 19/66s in both 4" and 2.5".

If you can swing it ....... try to get the 66 to go with your 19.... in the long run you will not regret it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree that the stainless is the way to go for hard use, but as major parts for the 19 and 66 are no longer available, I really don't shoot them. In that case, the 19 wins for sheer beauty and collector status.

I remember when cops carried revolvers when I was a kid because I had cap guns just like theirs:D I live in NY so we do not have the variety of guns like most states have. Also, many dealers do not want to ship guns to NY even though they are legal so that is another issue we have to do with here.
