Do All The New M&P Pro's Come With The Real Nice Textured BackStraps Now? (Like Core)

I am looking to purchase the M&P9 Pro 5" from my local gun shop (the 178048 10rd mag model since I'm in CA.)
Product: Model M&P9 Pro Series

So I have seen many pictures online showing this gun with the regular style back-strap you always see on these M&P's

BUT many newer Pro's I see posted here and other places seem to have the nice new textured back-straps on the Pro models (just like the CORE does)

My question is ...... Did this change recently? (another forum has said this changed last year?) Are all the Pro models now coming with the nice new textured back-straps like the cores have always had? And the regular non textured back-straps were from the older model Pro's I keep seeing???

Just wanting to make sure when I order my Pro through my local gun shop that it "Will" be coming with a new textured back-strap and not the older style one.

They cannot guarantee me that this will be the case .. and I have to purchase in full to place this special order from one of their 2 gun providers (not S&W but some other gun place I guess) and if I do and it comes in and it's the older version with the regular straps etc. then that's that .. he said they reserve the right for a 25% restocking fee if I don't take it ... and I will not if this is the case (cause I know there also other upgrades like the barrel, trigger etc. I found out that occurred when they made the textured back-straps a normal thing for the PRO's). I want to order one Monday but man oh man I will be P.O.'ed if it comes and it;s an old version you know, and I'm stuck with it regardless.

I know no one can tell me for sure but has anyone ever seen a guy order a Pro version and get the old non-textured back-straps at all?

How are you planning on getting this into CA and transferred with them not being on the roster?

One of my partners got a Pro last year probably around June... He had it on order for some time. It came with the new CORE style grip. He uses a medium so he gave me his large. That's all the info I can really give, but based on that ONE experience, it seems the Pros are coming with the new backstraps (which are GREAT, by the way).

This pic is from Jun 2013, so it's after I got that grip from my partner. I would suppose it should be pretty standard by now unless they changed back.

My 4.25 inch Pro Series came with them. They are AWESOME! I wish you could get them for the compact pistols!

both my 5" and 4.25" bought this year came with them. They are far better than the std backstraps.

The odds are looking more in my favor now from what I see here and also on another forum I have asked.

I will be calling S&W Monday to try and get further info on this and see what they say as well.

I just know with my situation that it's all or nothing, if ordered I get what I get whether it's the new model or not so I'm cautious about doing so based on that is all.

Any more info would be great ... thanks guys

My new Pro came with the textured backstraps, very nice. If it comes with the old style (unlikely, unless the distributor is shipping your dealer old inventory, again, unlikely, don't think these pistols sit long on the shelves), I would bet that a nice letter to Smith & Wesson customer service might get you the new ones. btw, I would look for a friendlier dealer, seems to me they ought to keep Pros in stock, so you wouldn't have to order blind. Also, you could buy from Kittery Trading Post, or Buds Gun shop, etc, and have it shipped to an ffl holder near you.

Wish I could order it from Buds but this gun is not on the CA approved list and it has to be SSE'd to work ... in turn Buds or most all online gun stores won't ship this gun to CA since it's not on the approved list .. only M&P Buns will ship to CA is the regular 4.25" FS .... I would have gone this route if it was possible cause the price I could get it for in my local store I could get from Buds (that includes the transfer fee at my local FFL).

I am pretty sure I will be good but man I hate buying sight unseen ... and no other shop in my area carries them in stock (except for one shop but it's the 17rd version with the mags riveted and I am not a fan of that really.

The dealers I go to are great but they don't carry this gun in stock as it's not a fast seller they say so they only order it I guess (they say the cheaper FS sells better so they get those).

I am basically down to trying to order and crossing my fingers ... from what I have seen from everyone and the feedback I have received I would doubt I would get an old but I guess if I decide to try I will find out.

Unfortunately I do believe someone on this forum or another did try to get the Pro style back straps from S&W and was told they are not currently selling them.

I'm starting to think I may just go with the CORE M&P and not even have to worry about it ... $75 more gives the guarantee for new back-straps and upgraded internal parts and barrel ... PLUS of course I can add an optic at any point in time as well which is nice and something I may do in the future who knows.
