Society has fallen to a new low

I feel sorry for good kids, who are forced to grow up in bad neighborhoods, surrounded by thugs and violence. Growing up in that atmosphere must just be surreal.

When I grew up, the worst thing that I had to deal with was snotty preppies. :)

I grew up mostly in South Seattle. Not the worst of places, but generally poor. Dad got hurt on the job when I was 6 and was out of work for maybe 3 years. Back injury. We were on public asssistance. Dad neverstopped tryin to get better and get back to work. He got a job as a Licence Examiner with the state, and I'll never forget him bringing home his first paycheck. Hehad cashed I, and laid Iit all out on the kitchen table. I had never seen  so much money in my life! I think it was $265 dollars! For a months work!

My point being, it don't matter if you're poor, it's how you're raised......

Dont get me started on gang punk wannabes. Two Sundays ago, one tried stealing my tablet while I was sitting at the table using it.I was ina McDonalds and looking in my haversack for somehting and said punk tried reaching over and grabbing my tablet. I snatched it out of reach, got upand elbowed him in the mouth. Employees called the Police he was arrested. I said I would like pressing charges but didnt appear I needed too because he was arrested for outstanding warrents. Anyway, his two friends nearby-said and did nothing after I elbowed their friend. All three of these punks had at least 2-3 teardrop tattoos. After he was hauled off-as i was leaving, these two were blocking the exit as much as possible and I walked through them. I HATE--punks.

I feel exactly the same way, I hate punks. Cheap, cowardly low-lifes that prey on those they perceive as weak and unable to fight back. Glad you got the upper hand in that situation. I would love to have been a fly on the wall and seen the look on the punks face when you nailed him. Good work!!!

I thought you were in the Big House??

He was:

But he escaped with the help from Maureen O'Hara and Cornel Wilde: :D

Thank you and actually, the look on his and his friends faces was a Kodak moment. None of them expected it and I really didnt either. I was just fed up with those types coming in and thinking they owned that territory. I cant remember if he bled or not? as I dont remember hitting that hard but--my elbow was a bit sore for about 2-3 days. :-))

Oh and, since ive been back--the manager of said McDonalds--offered to give me a couple free meals. I declined not telling her that I didnt want to insult her by telling her--I cant stand their 51% meat that they pass off for food. :-)) I did accept the free large glass of ice tea though and an Apple Pie. :D

" Lost the Will " Deuce says....IMO he is right....It has been coming for years...Some have made all kind of excuses for anti social behavior. Simple fact is it is easier to game the system than to clean up, dress up and work........gold chains, pants on the ground and a piece is the end all now...It is cool, don't you know...Working isn't cool. It is easier for the politicians to give excuses than to set the example of hard work, education, or parish the thought go into the military....The rappers glorify the gang image and life style...Praise the killing of a officer who was sitting in his unit. Who would or could praise a wanton killer who bragged earlier that "Watch the news" Have a memorial for a cop killer....BTW I think the officer was of Hispanic descent. No more excuses please I have over the 40 years I was in LE heard all the excuses I care to hear....Wake up America

Our country and society has ignored this threat that has been growing for decades. We have an urban culture that is just a product of their environment. Children have been raised, not like most of us, without a morale compass. They don't know our difference in right and wrong. They weren't taken to church and taught the 10 Commandments and the golden rule. They were taught to look out for yourself and take what you can. They weren't taught a work ethic, or to try the best you can, or that you can be whatever you strive to be. They weren't taught to respect strangers or someone who's different. They weren't taught about the great country that we live in and the opportunities that all Americans have. They don't know how to talk, they don't know how to work, they don't know how to dress, and they don't understand responsibility. Many will do crimes and go to prison, just because they were never aware that there was any other way to live. Poverty destroys culture. These urban areas are losing all of theirs. If the "haves" don't find a way to stop this decay, the "have nots" will eventually overrun and depose of the "haves". The French and Russian revolutions are prime examples.

I'll tell you what makes me sick. Stand by for an old man complaining about the youth of today. But with good reason.
This recent crop of young thugs and wanna be hoodlums and the media, pop culture, etc.. glorify and go to great lengths to emulate the worst elements of society with big chains, pants hanging failures.
The hoodlums of my time wore suits and kept to themselves and never interfered with the general society and we emulated the part of society that was successful, we worked, bought cars and tried to be successful any way we could.

Why would someone what to act like the grew up poor.

Doesn't make any sense to me.

YES IT IS A NEW LOW.
My wife and I were trying to design a double headstone marker the other day for our (hopefully distant) future needs. We will be interred in a very old and small private cemetery on a ranch in SW Texas that was started by Texas pioneers (including my ancestors) in the mid 1800's. It is on the Texas Register of Historical Places. Of the 220 graves that lie there, I have verified that I'm related to about 200 of them from my mothers side of the family. The whole cemetery has only about six families in it, and back in the 1800's all those families married into the other local families. It was a small frontier settlement distant from other communities as was common for the day.

We picked a spot near my grandparents and great grandparents. Since I have a different last name than my mother's parents I was going to have "Grandson of ___ ____" on my side of the headstone so people would know who I was related to there. I was also thinking of having two other additional notations on the stone other than the normal name and dates; (1) Tx. Peace Officer and (2) Tx. State Guard. .....The more I think about it, the more concerned I get that the law enforcement notation will only cause the future garbage of this once great land to vandalize the grave. That is what we have come to......!
I look upon that cemetery as a museum of old markers and want ours to fit in. Maybe I'll just leave off the part about being an LEO for 28 years.

By the way....I see that old cemetery as a museum, because it is not a place of lodging for the souls of the departed since they either went to heaven or hell immediately upon their death. My soul will be in heaven long before the M.E. is called, so I'll just go visit the cemetery while I'm alive and read the interesting markers and wonder what their life was like way back then.

ANY known member of a murdering gang, should be executed....all of them....period!

Yes, round up every member and charge them as either as co-conspirator or accessory after the fact.

I'd go one step further and use the same method to execute them as they used to commit their murders.

My father told me, and I told my kids - if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem. It's simplistic, yes. But it's true. When it comes right down to it, you have a choice as to which it will be.
In the much, much bigger picture these people are not putting any polish on their souls and they're gonna be sentenced to rinse and repeat until they get it right. I have to think of it this way or the rage that wants to surface, will. And then I become part of the problem. God rest Officer Santiago and grant some form of peace to his family. Because isn't that what we ALL really want? They have earned it. It should be theirs.
