This is a warning to anyone that shops at Dick’s Sporting Goods in Illinois.

This is sad. Anyone remember when you didn't have to show any sort of i.d. or paperwork to buy ammo?

But yes, I've had problems with some of the personnel at the appropriately-named Dick's before. I'm genuinely not sure if any of them work there full time or not. They just don't seem to be familiar with the products they sell...unless maybe it's t-shirts, sweatpants or some other generic product.

Yes, and I remember it ended in 1968. I remember the Federal regulation that classified all .22LR ammo as handgun ammo and required ID to purchase. I remember a lot of 60s liberal feel-good, do-nothing laws and regs being eliminated in 1986 with Volkmer-McClure, only to be replaced with new "progressive" feel-good, do-nothing laws and regs.

Eternal vigilance, or something like that...

GOTTA LOVE IDIOTIC FORM QUESTIONS

Especially the purchase forms where it's the honor system to tell the truth, cuz we all know criminals & drug users never lie.

From info gathered on the internet, it appears to be company policy that has recently been innovated. They claim it is to verify the sales clerk did check your FOID to see it was you! They say that they do not keep records of the ammo transaction and it does not leave the store! I'm dubious.

Right if it's on the internet someone can access it. Just ask the CIA.

I generally avoid "big box" sporting goods stores. I find the prices a bit high and the actual interest in shooting sports limited. I've visited the Dicks and Scheels in Springfield but only bought accessories. I tend to avoid places that have invasive policies like those spoken of here.

so does this mean that if for some really strange reason that I'm driving through Illinois as a non-resident and not having a foid card that I can't buy any ammo at all?

Good Intentions?

Hitler and Stalin had "Good Intentions" too.
Illinois and NJ need a lot of cleaning up and firearms don't have a thing to do with it.

Wow, not long ago I bought 150 rounds of 9mm and a 60 pack box of cigars from Wally World, and the clerk never asked for any ID. I always get a kick out of people saying the rural states are backwards, but after looking at the "forward" moving states, and the regulations on everything under the sun, I severely question their logic.

That is exactly what it means. I ran into this in Massachusetts.
Couldn't buy ammo reloading supplies or even dies. The clerk had to check with the Manager at Bass Pro before they would sell me a reloading manual. Hand to God it's the truth. I'm staying in Ohio...

I'm amazed no one brought up the fact he found .22 on a shelf in a big box store...

I haven't been in Dick's for years. Any gun store that chooses not to sell handguns doesn't have my business.

Dick's here in Alabama does not require any info from me. Must be a Ill. thing.

On another subject, I don't go to Dick's to get expert advice nor do I care what their thoughts are on gun control. I go there because they are the only source for CCI 22lr. standard velocity ammo around here. I've picked up 3K rounds in the last couple weeks and while $40 a brick ain't cheap it's only about a penny a round more from the pre panic prices. Dick's will continue to get my business as long as that have what I want.

Remember that this is the same corporation that removed all "assault weapons" from their shelves after Sandy Hook and cancelled all special orders for the same.

Dick's has always been very good at making up their own regulations. In Michigan, it is not necessary to call in for a NICS check if the firearms buyer has a CFL. Dick's chooses to do so anyway, wasting both their time and the time of the patron.

Just got a couple thousand rounds delivered by the Big Brown truck, picked some up at wally World they didn't ask any questions. Might go to another Wally World and see if any .380 or .22 is in and won't have to show ID in the state of VA. Don't have a Firearms Owner Identification Card (FOID).

OH that's right I live in a free state, except for taxes. Sorry for you people in restricted states. Think I might load up one of my 100 round mags. Of course it did take me about 10 minuets the other day to pick up my Sig P229R from the LGS, we did talk for a few minuets also.

As an Illinois resident, if you wish to be a gun owner or ammo purchaser, you must apply for a Firearm Owner Identification Card which looks sort of like a Driver's license. You fill out a form which is similar to a 4473 and wait 30-90 days for the card. It costs $10 and is good for 10 years. It is required to own guns, purchase guns and purchase ammo. There is a waiting period on all gun purchases and the law requires a "phone in" on all gun purchases including private sales. The FOID card has been a requirement since, I believe, the late 1960's.

And don't try to sell a gun to an IL resident if the fiasco I recently had to go thru is any indiciation!

I had already sworn off selling in CA and NY, now I've added IL.
