Hello all:

I was wondering if anyone here carries, uses, or can otherwise share some personal information on the Model 637? I am thinking of trying to find one. They can be had for around $400 here in W. TN.

I bought a Model 360pd back in the Summer "out the door" for less than that. I was thinking of trading it in or selling it to buy the Model 637. And I know all of the push back ideas on why that would be a real loss.

But I would like to have some of your expert opinions on the Model 637.

Thanks, ;)

637

Hello. Life is short - buy what you want (as long as the wife doesn't find out)! :-)

Someone else had a recent thread about the 637
http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-re...393731-need-opinions-637-airweight-38spc.html

This may give you some ideas. Also if I read your post correctly you can get a 637 for around 400 and the 360PD you got for LESS than that - you got a steal. These retail for over 1K and you can see them on gunbroker for 800 used. Maybe save up for a 637, just a thought.

Heck you could get two 637s for the price of the 360PD then you need dual ankle holsters and you are all set for winter - might walk a little funny though.

Good luck on your purchases

I really like the model 637 but wish they made the same style in a 357 caliber with bobbed hammer.

I have a 637 for my wife. Nice little revolver.

Performance Center Enhanced Talo

I have a Performance Center Enhanced Talo Edition 637. I love it. I put magna grips on for carry because I like a smaller profile for carry. The grips that come with it are very nice and comfy for shooting. Its a nice shooter that far is more accurate than I am.

This gun got me hooked on S & W. I was a Ruger guy until I bought this gun. It was my first Smith, bought in March 2013. I now have four of them (19-3, 637-2, 65-4, 629-6).

If you have a dremel and vise, you can easily bob the hammer. For me this 637 is the perfect carry gun.

I agree no problem bobbing the hammer but that does not help with the 357 caliber. I happen to like the style of a Taurus 605 SS2 over the style of the S&W 357's. I did bobb the hammer on it.

But I still like the S&W 637 and think Rhetorician should get that 637. Sounds like a real good deal to me.

I like my 642, and almost bought a 2nd Talo. Instead, opted for these...

637 PC, pre-bobbed and an addictively smooth trigger. I think it's a bargain too.

As for .357 in a snubby, it's just too uncomfortable. I can shoot +P in these with reasonable follow-ups and control.

Ah, yes, I overlooked the .357.

As for the price, $400 is a fair one indeed.

down here in FL, they go for a little over 400 so price is good. my wife carries a 637 EVERY day. its nice a light, conceals well and is revolver reliable. i prefer the 442 myself. as for the .357, most of the .38+p stuff is pretty hot. i don't use it. hornady xtp 158gr. standard pressure is my first choice. don't get rid of the 360pd, you'll regret it...

You're a brave guy, Mark! You know I also have 2 Wyatts. According to some other posters, we're not supposed to like these guns because of the logos (calm down, everyone, I can't figure out the smileys).

You've been "made" a J-hound. Membership card to follow shortly. I've waived your "dues" so you can buy a 3rd Wyatt.
Best wishes and good shooting.

P.S. 1st time ever I've copied the photos in a quote. Love those Wyatts!

From your recent posts, I take you to be an incipient J-hound. I would not trade off the 360 for a 637. Folks mention the brutal recoil of the 360 with magnum loads, and boy, are they ever right.

However, the 360 makes a dandy super lightweight .38. If it still ships with those Hogue boot-type grips, you're already good to go. Just find the loads without the bullet-inertia problem ( and some .38 loads will "pull"), and you have a back-up to your new 637! And you do need a back-up: what do you do if one gun is in for service?

Backup for the Model 360pd

Friend,

Thanks for the comeback. I did indeed have to send the Model 360 back to the Smith factory. When I bought it at the local pawn emporium the face of the cylinder was running against the forcing cone. I sent it back to them on their nickel both ways with no charge to me.

But not to fear, I have a little Taurus 738 380acp AND a Ruger LCR 357 that are in my carry rotation. So I am covered.

I thank all of you for lending an ear. I think I would be a bit nuts to swap or sell the Model 360pd, take the proceeds, then buy a 38 Model 637.

Sometimes we just need to hear others say the same thing we are thinking out loud. Other times we just need to be warned not to do something stupid!!!!

So thank all of you who have give feedback. ;)
