Buying Here for Resale > New Rules

So here I sit, a collector of Smith & Wessons, who also happens to have an FFL License. I am by no means a big-time dealer, and I have never even sold a firearm that needed to be shipped. I have a handful of firearms in inventory because I like to set up at a few local gunshows. Now I'm supposed to wait 24 hours before I can purchase a firearm off of this forum??? I call B.S.

Nobody said that dealing with this problem was going to be easy.

In a situation like this, a line has to be drawn somewhere. It's because of a few opportunists that people, who play by the rules such as yourself, unfortunately suffer the consequences.

I've wondered lately if some members have a program that alerts them when certain models or key words are posted in the Guns For Sale section. As others have noticed, it seems that they buy desirable guns minutes after they are posted.

I support the 24 hour rule. I believe that members who sell here set their price where they are comfortable and lower it if they're wrong. The philosophy of why sell here, at a fixed price, when someone on an auction site might pay more does not promote the interests of the Forum and drives prices up for everyone.

The problem, in my opinion, will be who or what criteria will designate a member a dealer. There are members who regularly buy on the Forum and sell on auction sites that would be indignant if identified as a dealer. I'm sure that they believe that they are only selling revolvers that they bought but decided not to keep.

Thanks - Mike

I will echo something 05CarnonDRZ said, "Some of these Dealers do not contribute anything to the Forum as far as info is concerned. They are only here for the Classifieds.....Period."

It is easy to point to a few people who's sole contributions are a long string of posts reading, "I'll take it." That is it. They have not liked anyone's post or made friend contacts.

The hard part will be where to draw the line.

Face it, for some members this is a small side business that would interest the IRS if they knew about it.

I don't think this will be easily resoved but I am sure glad it is being squarely faced.

'nough said.

I agree with what is being discussed. I have stopped offering firearms here for that reason. anything that I want to move is being offered on the big internet site. I hate to do this, but if money is going to made on a gun I sell, I would prefer it be me. this does not mean I have a profit motive as a collector, but why should anyone sell something at a loss if they don't want to or need to.

Donating Members

And here lies the problem.
This drives members to sell elsewhere and fellow members miss out on dealing with each other

This idea may ruffle some feathers but how about making the first 24hrs of a sale ONLY available to PAID/DONATING MEMBERS (non-dealers). This way people who contribute ideas & input to the forum, plus their cash donation, receive a benefit back for same ??

I wish I had never read this thread.

If someone wants to sell something - anything - and sets a price that THEY WANT why should they care who buys it and what business is it of yours what the buyer does with it?

This is still America - I think. It used to be made up by capitalist, now it's shifting to a bunch of whiners.

Ban me if you want, I really don't care anymore.

A very difficult situation. I am a member here since 2006 but I also happen to be a FFL. I have purchased a dozen or so guns here all of which I own or may have been confiscated by my wife!! I believe that I have sold 2 to forum members, though I do not remember if I placed and ad or someone was looking for something. Of those 2, one, a duplicate, was from my personal collection. I agree that I like the idea that someone would purchase for their own collection, I consider the forum, where I go to learn, teach, talk with like minded people. My last purchase 2 3/4" 500, I have no idea how long it had been up for sale, if I had to wait 24 hrs it would be agonizing to me!! I am not aware of the dealers buying than reselling since I prob check the classifieds only once a month but I am buying for me ( wife), and I see many items that I would have bought for myself, but they are sold and I have wondered how someone bought it 5-10 min after it was listed!! So I am torn, if a 2 3/4" 500 goes up at a good price, do I wait knowing that my wife likes mine and wants one??? Be Safe,

Don't like the quick sales? Get rid of tapatalk notifications for the guns for sale section....just saying.

I use tapatalk myself and am at the point of building my collection. It's nice to scoop something I've been looking for quickly but I could live without it. If the dealers want to shop 24/7 and buy at a sellers ASKING price that time invested is all part of running their business. Not sure it's anyone's place to tell them how to make a living with their FFL01.....but we don't have to make it easy........

I just went to classifieds, 13 min, 17 min post to sale. It might be nice to remove the immediate notification, and force everyone to look daily, hourly, but just as the "local" gun shows are the same people with the same things, eventually no one will sell here since they could sell it somewhere else to get more money, too bad for the collector!! Be Safe,

I have bought and sold in the classified area and have been happy with the guys I've dealt with. I'll admit I've been frustrated when a desirable deal gets snatched before I see it, but I honestly hadn't paid that much attention to who was snatching and as pointed out, I don't even know who the dealers are. All that said I'd be fine with the 24 hour suggestion, and think that is probably the best compromise to make the most members happy. We may not know who all the dealers are, but it sounds like we are really only talking about 2 or 3 repeat "offenders", and apparently everyone (except me!) knows who THEY are!

Well a quick check in the classifieds shows 51 ( I'll take it) since 2/2014 for one person. I am not going to look to see if they are/were up for sale, it will just make me ill!! Be Safe,
