Just wanted to say hello. Recently purchased the M&P22 for family fun and learning. My wife recently took her CCW but has not really shot before. The 22 has already turned out to be a great purchase for her and the kids to get comfortable with shooting hand guns without the worry of recoil and excessive noise. I see the path forward will very likely include more M&P's. Right now I'm leaning toward the 9c as a next purchase.

I'm an experienced shooter but mostly with shot guns (really love SGs) and rifles mostly for bird and big game hunting. I have shot other people's pistols enough to understand and handle them safely but until now had not gotten around to owning any.

Welcome to the forum. I own many M&P pistols. All in 9mm & 22. The 9c is my EDC. The shield was confiscated by my wife which is now her Edc. Happy shooting and beware of the infectious disease cause by the M&P bug.

Welcome from Wisconsin! You have a pretty good choice of M&P pistols to choose from. I personally carry an M&P40C mostly & a full size M&P40 when the weather is cooler & I can wear a sweatshirt or jacket for easier concealment.

The beauty of a compact is you can carry a full size mag in it, not necessarily for concealment - I might as well carry the full size - but it's nice at the range to cut down on mag reloading time. There are times when I carry the compact with the full size mag when total concealment isn't important just so I can rotate through all my mags.

Caliber is a matter of choice. I chose .40 because I got a good deal on a used full size M&P with a few extra mags & when I was in the market for a compact I chose the same caliber because of my full size magazine availability. I'm thinking of getting a 9MM barrel for one or the other or both of my pistols & then I'd need to get 9mm mags. I'd feel just as comfortable carrying anything 9MM or larger. Modern ammo makes them all fairly effective.

Welcome from MS. I applaud the fact that you have your family involved as well. I wish I could get my wife to take an active interest.

Welcome. My first pistol purchase was also the FS M&P .22, and for much the same reason, to get my wife and children comfortable with shooting and safety. My kids can all field strip the gun and everybody knows how to check the weapon, how to clear it, if needed and how to handle it safely. It's been a lot of fun.

I followed it up with a Shield that does double duty as my home defense. Again, everybody knows how to operate that as well. I have no idea what my next purchase will be, but with xmas around the corner, I know it won't be soon.

Welcome! I've had a Bersa .380 and a Ruger LCR .38 special, along with my 9mm Shield and an M&P 9 FS. I'm down to just the Shield and the 9 FS. One caliber, both great to shoot, take down the same way, etc.

I call mine "Big Sis" and "Little Sis" (you think that's bad? I've got a friend who names all her pistols!).

Welcome from Michigan. The 9c is a good choice. Practice ammo is relatively cheap and top end self defense ammo really doesn't kick that much.

Both my wife and daughter have their own M&P9c pistols. Their choice, not mine.

Thanks very much for the warm welcome and encouragement. As I have looked around a bit I appreciate positive responses as apposed to the slamming I see on other forums. Great forum!

Happy shooting and beware of the infectious disease cause by the M&P bug.

The desire to have more is real!!
I started with a M&P 40FS about 3 years ago and now have about 2 dozen various M&P's. I like them all!!
There's a like new 9FS in the forum classifieds for $325 right now. Good deal that I should jump on but sure don't need.... I'll pass that info to you for consideration.

Happy shooting!
